still panel beating >>

those lumps on either side of the fenders inside the engine bay are taking ages to slap round but am nearly there. I'm using a slapping hammer and oxy to shrink the metal to pull it into shape.I'm having troubles smoothing out the front of front inner fenders that is obstructed by the front nose cone so I've hacked at some spare panel beating hammers to get some swinging room - still not luck though. I was reading a book that there is a heavily zinc based paint that you can paint on the panels before seam welding. When welding the zinc is drawn into the weld giving it some rust proofing properties. Ever heard of that before ?The hound is the Site Officer and keeps the place in running order :)

Shane, the only product like that you dont

want to use as it will defeat the purpose of your project, products such as coldgal are extremely heavy and will add weight to your car, from memory a 4 litre can can weigh as much as 6kg +. There are however some good 2 pac acid etch primers on the market that will do the same if not better job.

This sort of masochistic lifestyle >(long)

you lead seems to be your "mojo". Whilst most of us are rugging up next to a heater (those with no zed heater cores that is), you are out on the cold concrete in 6[superscript]0[/superscript] weather pounding on metal whilst your site manager cracks the whip 8( Have you considered getting paid for this sort of torture? There are custom car designers in the states who make big money turning someone dream into a reality ... I suspect there are enough well heeled zedders who would love to have the sort of zed you will shortly end up with but much prefer to pay someone else to do the grunt work due to lack of time etc. At least get this mechanic service going on the side ... ;) (hint, hint):YD As they say, make your vacation your vocation":YD regards

just work hard and you don't get cold

polishing is tough work and I still drip of sweat in the cool of the night. I can't do any panel beating too late at night so that is usually weekend work whilst during the week I do polishing and other work on the car. If you think this is a masochistic lifestyle wait till next year once the new shed goes up to make way for spray booth, fibreglassing booth, hoist etc. for making lightweight 300ZX racing shells (Only kidding)

Chewy,

I know there is a paint that has a high zink content for use when welding but cant remember the name of it for the life of me. Maybe try a welding supplier they will probally stock cans of the stuff.

At this rate Shane...........

your project is getting me intriuged, looking good to but im a bit worried about the metal staying bare for so long, dont forget to treat it with an anti rust agent, will get the name of the one we used at the body fabrication shop for you, i might have to drop in next time im in Brisvegas if i get the time .

I spray it will Inox everynight to give it a

protective coating. It's too hard to beat flat the ripples in the firewall so the windscreen is also coming out so I can get one hand either side of the firewall.
I saw a twist hammer for sale that looks nifty for shrinking metal to pull bumps out of panels. As you hit the hammer on the panel the hammer head which has swirl cuts in it will twist the panel causing it to shrink.I picked up the TIG last night from a friends place and have a bunch of mild steel and stainless filler rods so should be ready to weld soon.

Any suggestions you have I'd certainly welcome :) I've got from the weekend till wednesday off work so I can finish the panel work.
