I just got back from a quick trip - did 5852km in 11 days (averaging 532km per day) Z ran perfectly the entire time - although the suspension is a bit hard for cruising on most of the crap roads. Averaged 11.37 l/100km which isn't too bad considering the NA diff. Shot down to the Great Ocean Rd, then back up thru the Snowy Mountains, Bathurst and back to Brissie. Does anyone else take their Z for a proper drive?
Nice trip, Best I've managed in the zed is 1500ks in 7 days going down the great ocean road to mt gambier and back. This include a few dirt roads as well. It's such a great cruising car and didn't miss a beat.
I've been up north, down to margs.. Dub and I went to margs once and most people thought the cars were ferraris.... we didn't correct them, just smilled and nodded.
I'll have done Rocky to Sydney (1400km) and back about 5 times by the end of the year. Last 2 times have been in in Zed's. My best time so far is around 26 hours. Some of those huge concrete NSW freeways in the middle of the night are absolutely brilliant
I drive Newcastle to Tamworth regularly, and have done many other trips in the Z. My coilovers are a bit rough, but with some stockers, I think it's a comfortable, ample powered and (somewhat) efficient highway cruiser. I really want to drive to Adelaide one time via the 'outback' (dubbo, wilcania, broken hill)... my main concern would not be the Z, but the kangaroos, wombats, emus, and other critters that are likely to find their way onto my car at speed.
Not really a "proper trip" but i've done sydney to canberra several times, and will be going again over the weekend.
Launceston to Perth when i bought the car. The ferry trip over was on of the worst. waves the height of the ferry. And all night i kept thinking that i left the handbrake off and the car was sliding around in the hold. EEKK! Anyway the drive back was really fun. recommended!
I have driven my zed to a rural town on the border of qld...cant remember what it was called...was a getaway for me and the mrs....very nice place...all up it was almost 1000km and only used a tank and a half of fuel no problems at all would definitely do a long trip again Im going to sydney on friday evening...wanted to drive there but because i will be not able to drive back on sunday...hence why i had to fly there would have love to have the zed to cruise up there theres always next time Why all of you come to the GOR when the massive cruise is upcoming within a few weeks?? It would be great to have fellow members from other states join us for the GOR cruise theres never a thing a too many zeds Abraham
