It's been a while since I got rid of the devil's zed: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1112782&highlight=devil's#post1112782 The opportunity presented itself so I got my hands on a replacement which needs a bit of cosmetic work: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=330658 Only downside is it's an auto so a manual transplant will take place before it hits the road.
I had a look at that zed, almost bought it actually. Lots of potential! But yeah, in desperate need of some cosmetic work.
Once it was home I got stuck into the bodywork. Removed all the windscreen trim and spent a couple of days removing all traces of rust and applying rust proofing. Luckily nothing major (with the exception of one targa that I poked my finger through). I'll get some pics up shortly. It appears to have had a dodgy paintjob in the past which is partially responsible for the rust. It will be a slow project as I need to finish another zed before I can get to the mechanicals on this one.
Here's a few pics. It's slow going as I have to finish another zed which will help fund this build. As it arrived: Without wasting time I got stuck into the rust removal process: I'm a bit limited for space at the moment. Zed on zed Bit more bodywork: Did a bit more today after work. Noticed traces of rust moving under the windscreen, so decided to rip out the windscreen (it was damaged already):
Aww man, looking at these photos makes me really wish I had bought it! Just don't have the space at the moment
It's going to be a LOT of work but hoping to have a decent car in the end. Current plans are: Respray the car in orange. Nistune running flex fuel setup. 800cc injectors. Manual conversion. Aftermarket plumb back recircs.
