hey all, was just wondering how much would be a fair quote for a car to be resprayed in a different colour.

Its red at the moment, and want to join the dark side and go black, also wanna try and remove all the dints caused by hail and add a body kit that needs to be painted.

So if anyone has any names and numbers of any reputable resprayers, or body repair places, with resonable quotes that would be great.

I did call one place that quoted me $15000.00 so it kinda scared me.

Also thinking about trying to sell mine and buying a black one, but just keeping it as an option at the moment.

I saw an old post by pix300 that he had his resprayed for like $3000, that sounds good, if anyone can point me in that direction it would be greatly appreciated.

    indeed

i asked the guy to justify it, and after about 5 mins of stutering... i said thanks for your time and hung up...

so yeah, kinda scared me, and i hope that i can find a bit more of a reasonable quote

    Not hard for

The $'s to add up once you add a body kit that has to be fitted,
Also depends on how much of a body kit, wings ,skirts, infill panels, front and rear bars, bonnet, etc.
Most of these require a lot of preperation, hi fill and rub back numerous times before they are ready for paint and being black they are going to show any little flaws.
Also if it is hail damaged, sounds like it is going to need a lot of other work.
I think option 2 would be the best bet, buy a black one and sell the red one.

from what i've gathered, it is quite a bit more for a colour change..probably looking at $5,000 or more for a good job..but 15,000 is a joke

    yeha i understand that

the body kit consists of only a front bar and some skirts.

pretty happy to pay upto about $4500 for it fitted and painted, but i dunno, does anyone know of a place i can ring for a quote.

would rather explore the painting idea before i go and sell and buy another one. you get attached to ur z when u do a fair bit of work to it yourself, and as most of u know, its not that easy to jus tsell and buy another one.

If the hail damage is really bad, a cheaper option, would be to replace the affected panels, with straight 2nd hand panels. Hail damage(if repaired properly) requires panels to taken back to bare metal, and as mentioned, a lot of stuffing around. The more parts you can take off the car, the less you're going to pay for labour. You will run into extra costs, because you also have to remove parts in the engine bay as well, to change the colour. It cost me about $1000.00 in materials, a couple of years ago, when I resprayed my own car, but I wasn't changing the colour much. I did get a quote from a panel shop, for about $5500.00, which I thought was a rip off. For $15000.00, I would expect that panel shop to strip it to a bare metal shell, and the finished job should look like it just rolled out of the showroom. Best advice would be to get a lot of quotes, and discuss with them, what you can do to keep labour costs to a minimum. Material costs for a full colour change, shouldn't be any more than $2000.00 tops.
