Replacing Clutch Master Cylinder

I'm doing some pre-reading on swapping over a clutch master cylinder on my son's Zed - not made any easier by the fact that he's in Brisbane and I'm in Toowoomba, and I've got an auto. I've found a tech article on installing a replacement slave cylinder but can't locate any on installing a master cylinder. So, does that bode well that it will be a simple job?

TTnet has some discussions that have helped and I've looked at the online service manual as well. I have a question, though.

The clutch master cylinders for the NA and TT are different, looks like due to the clutch booster on the TT. All discussions about removing the master cylinder state that the push rod on the master cylinder goes through the firewall and attaches to the pedal via a pin (clevis pin and snap pin - CL-5 in the manual). But, the exploded diagram on CL-5 indicates that the master cylinder is attached to the booster, which in turn is attached to the clutch pedal. It appears that the TT master cylinder doesn't have a push rod as this is provided by the output rod of the booster acting against the end of the piston on the master cylinder?

My question, therefore, is: on a TT, does the clutch master cylinder simply unbolt from the clutch booster, without the need to unclip anything from the clutch pedal?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but it's a problem when you can't see the part first-hand.

    Cheers

    Kalus Finally dug myself out

I'm trying to remember mine when I had it out for painting....

I think that it simply releases without having to disconnect anything. I remember getting under the dash and removing the pins off the clutch and brake pedals and then realised it wasn't necessary, then had to put the pins back which was VERY fiddly.

Chewy has his out at the moment so he should be able to confirm.

You can just unbolt the master from the engine bay

side and it pops out without stuffing around inside the car.

There's no need to replace clutch masters as you can get them resleeved with a stainless steel insert which is better than the crappy alloy bore they come with. Cost is $40 from "All Brake and Clutch". Then get a clutch master rebuild kit from TTZ or Nissan and put that in.

Just ordered a rebuild kit from TTZED, was thinking about getting it

resleeved as well, does anyone know anywhere in Sydney to get this done ? or do I just pick up the yellow pages and find the closest clutch and brake place ?

    Thanks,

    Matt.

The more I've looked into it, the more appealing is the rebuild option.

But I wasn't sure what the resleeving would cost. Thanks, Chewey. While the car is off the road, it'll be a good opportunity to rebuild the slave cylinder as well, so there's less to go wrong in future.

Thanks for the info, guys.:thumbsup:

Chewy, what's the go with the resleeve? Do they reem the cylinder

to a standard oversize, so that the sleeve is the right size for the rebuild kit? Be a bummer to have it done and the kit not fit.

    Cheers
