Well, gentlemen it is a pleasure to join your forum as I find it quite stimulating in the fact that you not only discuss cars but you even transcend into teaching the correct use of the English language.
With your assistance and advice I may be able to reach a worthwhile solution to my Z problems. As you all have gathered by my call name that is the year I bought my ZX and I have been extremely happy with the car and she has only done 160000 Km.
Now my problem is that I have to have extensive work done to it before I am able to reregister in 2006 and the work entails the following....
    1) Oil seal between engine and gear box to be replaced.
    2) All rubber mounts in suspension to be replaced.
    3) Auxiliarry braking system to be replaced ?
    4) All shock absorbers to be replaced.
    5) Timing belts to be replaced.
I suppose all gaskets etc that need to be replaced would have to be done also.
Can any of you learned gentlemen out there give me some indication at what I'm up for in costs ?
Many thanks and hoping to here from you.
    :(

Don - A free English lesson with every post!

IB's figures are pretty right - you just have to decide whether to go minimum cost or best quality parts. If you do all this at once there will be some $ saving, for instance the shocks could be replaced at the same time as the suspension rubbers.
Second hand items like shocks and springs come up for sale in the classifieds every now and then - I bought my coilovers from a forum member, and sold my Koni/Bilsteins to another forum member.

If you replace the rear main engine seal - with the driveshaft out, is your centre driveshaft bearing OK? Opportune time to replace it, and cheaper to do so with a Repco unit rather than OEM Nissan.

If you've owned the car since new, has it had a timing belt change previously? At 160000km, tut-tut if not! Do NOT scrimp on the water pump if replacing with the timing belt - cheap units have caused trouble to more than one owner. Go Nissan OEM on this one.

Anyway, welcome to the forum - and here's the English lesson:
I'm guessing you were hoping to hear from us!!!

    Just joking, cheers, Mike.
(edit PS): If people just look at your posts and not your profile, they might think you are in Northern Territory, not Sydney.

    Geography 101... Sydney ain't in NT :LOL::LOL:

Seriously, Don, Welcome to the forum. You'll note that we also give Geography, Physics, and Maths lessons, as well as minor medical upgrades.
Wow! I think you're the first Original Owner of a Zed that I have communicated with. At 10,000km pa, the car must be still relatively pristine.
    Cheers,
    Doug

    Welcome Don...

So nice to have a member who has control of the language:thumbsup: A lot of posts lately have started to resemble SMS messages "wot you du dat 4" you get my drift.:LOL:

    Cliff

You didn't mention if you are planning on doing any of this work yourself. This can save a lot of money.

To I.B; Zed4life; RedZMikey; and Candu.
Thank you all for your remarks and indeed you do pick up points in presenting the English language and Red32 I take it that you are a apprentice at present keep up the good work it's a pleasure talking to you, ( and the rest of the lads on the Forum).
I have a confession to make the car belongs to my wife and it has only done 110,809Km. so you can see the only thing that is happening with the dear old thing is age ( Like me 66 ). Yes, Candu I am intending to do the work myself as I have access to a great workshop and I am an Aircraft Engineer. I have worked on various aircraft from Tiger Moths, DC3s, right up to Boeing 707, and don't you all join in chorus to say that I am a Zelion years of age. I have also repaired cars in my previous life ( when I was much younger) now I'm doing it for fun. I do reside in Sydney.:LOL:All suggestions and points of advice will be appreciated, for when you reach my number of years life teaches you to listen and take advantage of the suggestions.......regards to all Don

Re: Confession... I hope your wife lets you drive it

And don't worry about being a zillion years of age, there are many of us who are of similar or greater longevity.
Aircraft engineer? Meh, we got them already!
As for me, I'm just one of the forum's apprentice smart-alec's.:LOL::LOL::LOL:

Yes, she does red32 ( that is to drive the car) I believe I must qualify my statements with you guys, if the wrong thing is said one would undoubtedly be torn to shreds. But I must add that after getting 300gm of Titanium in my hip I find my Falcon Station wagon much easier to get in and out off. Not to mention the little extras like lights comming on & off when you enter the car, but I do still love the Z.......
