I got backed into recently by a mate of mine, in his work vehicle. Towbar into my shaved 2000 spec bumper. Now, it's being paid for by their insurance, but the insurance company are looking at repairing it, rather than replacing it. I'd much rather get it replaced as it was fine before I got hit. Can I demand they replace it rather than just repair it? I know what I'd rather!

Thoughts? Anyone been in this situation before?

    keep argueing it!!!

talk to your insurance aswell. if you have full comp they can prob argue it with them instead of you do the hard work .....

also if it doesnt go well speak to insurance ombudsman. google the insurance council their phone should be there...

they are not going to screw around replacing it if it is repairable which by looking at it ,it certainly is,save yourself the dramas and let them repair it,its nothing major after all

Go and get some quotes for urself (3), specify that u want the bar replaced.

I dont think the bar could b repaired without it looking like it has.
If they fill the hole the curve in the top line will be a dead givaway that its been repaired

Ive done a lot of panel beating, and i currently work as a tiler , i would be able to spot that repair from across the road lol

p.s i don't think the other persons insurance should dictate the way it will be fixed, hence he should get his own quotes

    Yeah

I'll happily argue that I want it replaced, I was just wondering if anyone knows if legally I can demand it? Oh, and yes I got it all quoted myself.

    Egg ....

    Good advice.
Let them repair it to 'your satisfaction' before you try and claim a new bar.
You have lots of rights if you're the one who has been hit and the damage is to be repaired by another parties insurance.

no disrespect but the repair you could spot would be a dodgy repair then,a quality repair wouldnt even show lol

since i pay top dollar,i see quality work :) ,but i do agree with you, nearly all stuff done these days is less than acceptable, but like the saying goes ,you get what you pay for i guess
Painting/ is the only thing i have done by someone else ,everything else is done by me for the very same reason you have given,

just let them fix it , i watch a mate do this kind of repair the other day on a skyline bar it only took him about 15mins to have it hardly noticable then a couple of hours to complete the job with paint and all there is no way you could spot that there had ever been damage there
