What is the best procedure for removing the injectors? Is it easier to remove them while the fuel rail is still on the engine, or would I be better off removing the fuel rail first?

I removed the fuel rail first

Then took them to Road and Track dyno services (off Main North rd), who are apparently the only guys in Adelaide who'll do our injectors. Let them take them out figuring that if they broke them it'd be their problem. They did a great job ultrasonically cleaning them too, i think.

If not you'll need to get a suitibly sized drift (or the right sized socket often works) and put the edges on the edge of a vice, then gently tap them out. I've found this works fine. Of course make sure they're undone (the little caps on top - which i might add are shockingly tight sometimes, and may need a pair of locking pliers on the outside of them to undo - Nissan really should have used hex head bolts or something IMO).

2nd - Con take the injectors in the fuel rail to the cleaners.

I broke the tip on one of mine trying to remove it as they can be in there pretty tight. So my advice is leave it to the experts.

Sam I replaced my crappy philips screws with allen key bolts at the enormous cost of $4 - why didn't Nissan do this?

I removed them with the fuel rail but you do have to be careful you dont

damage the tips. Although if you are going to have them overhauled ($250) they replace the tips .

Try not to damage the seals underneath. They are $70 a set.:(
