So it all started with a purchase of a Red Vert for 2500... I thought it would be great for Sus my G/F but there was a lot of work to be done. Since then I found a Cocoa Bronze Metallic and bought it for her and Red has to go up for sale. Seeing how I will not try to sell a car with something wrong with it I needed to fix her first. So I spent a little over 2k in parts and a lot of TLC. So here it goes... W T F ??? This is why you completely remove the Timing Belt Tensioner Adjustment Bolt after installation and adjustment of the tensioner...idiots...pure and unadulterated idiots. Here is where the bolt ended up melting itself into the timing cover luckily before detonating the engine. Then she was buttoned up and rolled outside for an Engine Bay cleaning!!! Much better! SeattleZ32nut....or "Venator" now... This is what I had for dinner that we found in our yard. Mmmmmmmmm Morel mushroom!!! The shorter version... Before... After... Thanks for lookin'! End of line/
awesome awesome awesome job mate....if it were a jspec and you were in aus im sure members would be hitting you up for that car
Thanks! Yes, just additional grounds. The Z32 runs on a high electrical consumption and if your grounds are not adequate then power will find a way, the shortest way, to a ground. This shortest path is usually your cooling system. This is one of the reasons why our Heater Cores go bad. Electricity will find its way and cause Electrolysis through your Heater Core and burn holes in it. Improperly grounded Stereo systems and other powered items like alarms are a contributing factor also. There are also 4 ground points on my engines. The front 2 run to the OEM locations of grounding up by the headlights on the frame rail, I have one at the battery to firewall location and one is grounded over by the Fuel Filter bracket. One can never have enough grounds! (Sorry replace "ground" with "Earth" and it will sound right to you guys...lol)
Always wear them. Been turning wrenches for 20+ years now. One of the things that my shop teacher said he would have done differently in his life. Wear gloves more often. The chemicals dealt with on a daily basis turning wrenches are very harmful to the Human nervous system. I kill enough brain cells with my extra curricular activities that I don't need any help from harsh solvents and chemicals. =) Besides...do you think I would even touch that engine with filthy, grimey and bloody hands?
Questions arising from the first couple of pics: 1. Were there any filter pads in the air-box when you opened it? 2. How effective do you reckon that leaf litter was as an air-filter? Seriously, good job there. Total transformation. I bet it runs better, too!
How did you manage to get a screw driver down there to undo the efi hose clamps coming off fuel send a receive lines? I'm struggling with that right now... theres a heat shield between them and the engine...
i never knew you had to remove the tensioner bolt. when i changed the timing belt on my TT motor not long ago the bolt was still in there. So it should definitely be taken out?
Always love your posts mate, very thoroughly and plenty of pictures. Looks absolutely gorgeous. Cant wait to do exactly the same thing to my baby, except i'll be wrestling my engine out first hehe. Congrats man, bet it runs like a dream now. Very impressed. MoulaZX
Suggest you remove the bolt as soon as possible, otherwise the tensioner cannot remove any slack from the timing belt
