Hi guys, After some opinions on oils that are recommended for my 300. The important points would be that it will be a brand new engine (CZP) and that it will have high HP (600~). Can I get some thoughts, thanks guys. Adam
Will need A mineral oil to run it in first, then switch over to a full synthetic. Plenty of good quality oils available, i use Motul, expensive at $25 per litre though. Do a search, been discussed lenty of times previously.
I recently got put onto Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil by my machinist, http://www.qri.biz/brands/brands_joegibbs.html I'm using their break in oil initially and will likely use their full synthetic when the motor is ready. It's about $20 per litre by memory.
I use motul also... But like wiz said you need to run it in on mineral otherwise your rings may not seal properly.
Race oil isn't suitable for a street car unless you change it every 2 weeks... Wouldn't use it unless the engine builder specifically told you to.
yeah i did try some searches actually.. must have had the wording wrong cos I had no luck. Thanks guys.. i sent messages to Motul and Joe Gibbs to see what they say.. yeah as far as price goes, given the amount im spending on the engine.. only the best oil will do
You can change it every 500 laps! lol http://www.joegibbsracingoil.com/trainingcenter/learn/faq/100.html According to the specs, it's good for over 500miles/800km. I don't know that it will go bad after 2 weeks of just sitting though. It does come down to practicality I suppose, but the engine in question is suggested to have 600hp so it's not all that practical to begin with and will likely have its oil changed very regularly anyway. For a daily driven street car I probably wouldn't recommend it though! But it can end up being cheaper dumping race oil regularly instead of street oil synthetic half as regularly, if that makes sense.
I actually bought a few bottles of Motul synthetic 15w40 at Autobahn on special for $65 for 5 litres. Keep your eyes open
