I'm lined up to get Niall to rebuild my engine in the next few months, he does them for around $4000~ (but don't quote me on that, as its him doing the work not me and he can charge what he wants :p) But for that price you have to do the fun stuff yourself :p (getting the engine out and back in) :)

P.S sorry forgot to mention Niall = Rollin_on_18_strong

Thanks for the plugs guys. the cost can vary dramatically on a rebuild. If a 100k service was recently done then it may not be neccesary to replace all that gear.

Also not knowing how bad or good your heads are makes it difficult to quote. My heads were in a terrible state, cost me 1500 just to do the heads.

    As a ballpark id say between 3.5 and 5.5k. + R and R

Im working on building a couple of stock TT engines i can supply for a flat figure on an exchange basis. but that wont be for a few months at least

yeh there are alot of variables! mostly to do with what parts you buy. I'm currently rebuilding my engine, doing all the labour myself except for the block, crank and heads machining. I'm estimating that it will still cost me almost $5000.
thats with full 200,000k service kit, forged pistons, gasket kit, new clutch, radiator etc. complete rebuild top to bottom.
The parts i have ordered from CZP in the US cost over $3000 alone

how do you mean you got done over?
as in you bought a motor, installed it and found it was stuffed?

only reason i ask is because i'm doing a TT conversion at the moment. when i bought the half cut they were able to show me the motor running, had good compression etc, but i'm still nervous about what will happen when i start it for the first time.

yeh when you finish tham let me know ill be interested in the flat figure exchange. my engin just started making rod noises when you rew the car over 3000 rpm.

yeah when we finished the job we turned it on and it started making noises from the bottom end but was light noises so i drove it to another mechaninc to do an inspection on it he toled me as well rods making the noise.
if you buy the half cut ask of a 3 months warrenty at least, my one had the compression done as well all around 145-150 was good.

thats a real shame. Ive seen a few like that lately. infrequent oil changes are to blame i think

I have a totaly rebuilt TT bottom end short engine here that I will sell if you are interested. I was going to use it in my racing car, But I managed to get something a bit more complete car wize.

$1000 is a pretty good price. PM me if you are interested.

It is a stock rebuild with new lower bearings, new rings, honed bores, basically as new.

I am going north in a few weeks so I may even be able to drop it off

I bought it to use myself. But I managed to buy a comlete car with cage forged engine, high flowed turbos, Motec etc etc.

This block is very nice. so it shouldnt last long. I was going to assemble a new engine from it and sell it but cant be bothered.

have a set of good used heads as well if they are needed.

your probably better off picking up an rb25dett for $3000 which has only like 40,000 km on it or something there a cheaper engine to rebuilt when the do require it

wtf? Why not put an old commodore engine in it. They're everywhere and cheap. Lots of aftermarket parts available. +500hp mod

If he is mechanically able to do an entire engine swap he can probably rebuild the VG just as easily...
