Rear main seal fitting issues

Currently trying to fit up a new rear main seal before the drivetrain goes back in the 2+2 and for the life of me I cant get the seal to go back on over the crank properly.

Fitted a new seal in the carrier, lubed up the crank and inside of the seal where it contacts the crank, now every time I try to push the seal home over the crank the retainer spring either pops off or the rear lip of the seal gets caught on the crank and tries to push past the front seal.

Am I missing something here or has my bargain gasket set come back to bite me on the arse? I can drive out the seal and fit a new spare I have here but I'd rather not if I can help it.

So after about 15 seconds of comparing the two seals I have my answer. Shock surprise, the $63 ebay complete gasket set I picked up has a rear main sealthat is complete shit. The rear part of the seal is 4-5mm lower than the front part of the seal and at least half the thickness in the same area as the other one I have.

Punched the shit thing out of the carrier, popped my good one in, bit more lube on the crank and seal, bam. On, screws in and tightened in about 3 minutes.

I'm still up well over $400 bucks on the full sets I previously was looking at and it only took me two beers to figure out so thats a win in my book :D
