Does anyone know a way of getting old window tint off without destroying the demister. My window tint looks like they used clear contact and coloured it with a Nico pen .... it IS THAT FADED... Tinting mobs want to charge about $100 to remove the old stuff .... and say there is 50/50 (or less) chance the demister will still work..... I think maybe only the middle section still works anyway and was thinking of replacing it prior to new tint (lifetime warranty) going on..... would hate to have to get the rear glass re-done just to replace the demister. Also was thinking of going for a Bronze tint ... something like this: or Click here for full ad. what does everyone think... My 300 is BLACK (see profile)
Hey Al, Happy New Year Don't go Bronze... looks crap IMHO. Use normal tint Use heat gun, razor blade scraper etc to remove old film, running scraper parallel to demist lines. Turps will soften & remove old sticky residue.
Thanks Rob Happy New Year to you and yours Thanks for the info..... Wish I reworded the post yesterday.. prolly could have got a heat gun from work ... might go buy a cheapie from supercheap or something .... Thanks again
An afterthought .... Use heat sparingly, i.e. low temp applied over large area , just enuff to soften film.
i also believe you can use a steamer to do it,lift one corner and peel back while steaming the edge ,watch ya hands ,thats how they took the original old tint off mine :zlove:
