All ive been hearing about gt4 is how good it is from everyone who has it. I borrowed my mates PS2 and GT4 game and have spent the last week playing it for a solid 4-8 hours a day, really looking forward to it too. All i can say is the Graphics and look/choice of cars are amazing as is the overall variety of tracks/cars etc etc etc.....but the main thing i was hoping for was a good driving game. Im not after a simulator or setting my expectations unreal(even though its advertised as a simulator) i just expected much much better. It has the driving characteristics of an old N64 car game in my opinion! Its like you are steering the road rather than the car, its just so lame that all the other good stuff on it doesnt matter. Their was some tracks which were good fun (like the long windy tracks with long straights) but the Xbox V8 supercars drives far better and is much more enjoyable in my opinion. I haven't tried gt4 with a steering wheel but i doubt if it would change much. No damage when you crash.....how poor is that! All is see is me turning the road and scenery rather than driving the car...piss weak gt4 pull your finger out and bring out a V2 with it driving properly:thumbsdown:
i totally agree, i wish they kept the gt3 physics. its just bs how the car can spin out all of a sudden, do a raipid 360 while your doing 300km, and then straighten up again.
V8 supercars 2 on pc anyways in my opinion was crap > v8 supercars was very arcadeish in my opinion, im not sure what you guys are on about steering the road and scenery. only thing i would say about the physics is you cant accidently spin with too much power and not enough grip on the rear end. overall im happy with gt4 just over 20% finished.
Best driving physics engine I've ever played was Grand Prix Legends . Realistic to the point of frustration, just getting a full lap in without a spin was a triumph, but with a steering wheel nothing made you feel more like a hero when you got it all down, right on the limit. One of the LeMans 24 hour games I remember being quite good too. Both are PC games, getting on a bit now. Live for Speed is newer and also has a neat engine. Best physics engine of all time (but not so much a racing engine) is Carmageddon 1 & 2 Ben
I second Egg.. an awesome game on Ps2 with heaps of different cars to drive in through career including trucks and forbies, and the movie sequences between stages are unbelievable. Well worth the coin.
i personally think GT4 is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but if you don't like it, why not try GTR. Ive heard rave reviews about this being one of the best together with LFS. i find personally found that the driving force pro wheel from Logitech was essential to GT4 and won't even consider playing it with the DS2 gamepad. I also thought that PD has managed to yet again create a master piece, balancing both simulation and arcade to produce an enjoyable game. Yeah it has it's short comings like the complete and utter lack of damage to vehicle, but for crist sake they fit 700+ cars in the game. And well the way i look at it, if you stay on the road, you wouldn't damage the car anyway, and that's how i strive to drive. but i suppose not everyone will like it and that's why there are plenty of other offerings out there. p.s. Forza will be out soon and that will have damage. The game looks promising.
