I have RE001's at the moment and will be trying the KU36's next time.

The RE001's are just too expensive, nice tyre though.

    mr zed x chassis scrubbin..

    re001's all the way.

gave me a much better feel of the road than the kumho's but the price kills it.

RE001's are called RE760 sports in America I believe.

Tirerack - Not that expensive. Check my review here.

I have the re001's and they are great, have had them about 2 years now. they are wearing at a good rate (only done about 12,000km though including track days and drag days). the grip is very good, wet or dry I never have issues.
they are a little noisy (only really notice it on the freeway) but that's what you get with tyres like these, probably the same for the ku36's.
can't comment on the ku36 as i haven't used them but have heard good things. a friend did comment that they do wear a little faster on the track though.
when i need new tyres i will go the re001's again. they are expensive but I know that they are good so worth the extra money.
not sure if they are the same as the re760 that zductiv posted, the tread pattern looks the same but the re001's actually have a different treadwear rating (lower) to the re760s so they will be a softer tyre that wears faster. that's assuming the treadwear test is the same between aus and usa.

the size i want is relatively cheap, so considering RE001 or KU36. but still, KU36 is cheaper.
wont be alot track use, but more likely will be hill run.

i have heard RE001 is quite heavy, any commend?
also consider the weather/season. summer is coming, want something great on dry/hot condition.

edit: where the best place/online shop to buy RE001 in au? i have been bob-jane and bridgestone. (bridgestone quote cheaper)

    Hi Galo.

Amanda got a set of RE001's through her work about 2 odd years ago. 255/40R17's and they have been fantastic tires. Still plenty of thread left, and overall, are a very nice tire. Weight is pretty much null. They weigh bugger all.

Due to Bridgestone going offshore now, the price is crap. She got them cheap as it was what they supply on the vehicles Amandas company support. Long story short, even with staff pricing its the same as what Bridgestone retail as a "sale" price. So its not very enticing for us anymore.

KU36's are a good tire for the cost. They will wear slightly quicker compared to the RE001's, but its something the price compensates for. KU31's are a slightly better compound tire for longevity, but for that performance appeal, the KU36's are the ticket. KU36's are brilliant in the dry, and just as good in the wet. The hotter summers down here will make the KU36's react quicker than the RE001's. But thats where the quicker wear comes into play. RE001's need a bit of time before they perform like glue.

If you have the money, go RE001's. But if you want to save a little, go the KU36's.

Both are very rewarding tires. Both you will be very happy for.

Just as a last note, we bought KU31's for the front of the blue zed. So far, they've been great. For a cheap tire, they perform well and more importantly, are quiet!

Bridgestone is going to be the cheapest for the RE001's.
Option1Garage is the place for the Kumho's.

New slicks for the Jap Ferrari will be dearly appreciated Galo! :br:

    cheers guys

been to beaurepair today, in their kumho catalog they even dont have KU36!!! then try to sell me goodyear eagle F1....or dunlop something.

bridgestone will do a good price on RE001, but not the most desirable size i want.
option1 doing great price on ku36 and the perfect size i want, but have to add $100 on top for freight and fitting.

    tending to go for RE001.

p.s. anyone wanna buy my stuffs listed in for sale section?

Go the RE001s I say...I had the earlier RE01s on my GTR for 5 years and are simply an awesome tire...especially after you go and put some Maxxis supposed "ultimate performance" tyres on, don't touch these as they are horribly inadequate compared to the Bridgestones.

The RE001s are definitely worth the extra buck if you ask me ;)

I have had both tyres, but unfortunately am unable to compare due to different cars, the KU36's gripped really well, never broke traction and were really good. I sold the zed not long after getting them though so cannot comment on tread wear

On the next car i bought, it had crappy silverstones or something, so i put RE001s on.

It breaks traction fairly easily on take off, and if i go over 6000rpm it breaks traction again, however i dare say this is more due to the weight (or lack thereof) of the car, and because my rear suspension is too soft so the front lifts off with high revs.

But still, these are a world above what i had on there previously, and through corners they stick beautifully

    Hey Bigbaz,

I never once had traction issues in the GTR with 320awkw on RE01s, even in 1st gear with pedal to the metal from 0kmph. But this could also be because the GTR is 4wd and the tyres were 255s all round with a well setup handling package :D.

    Cheers,

There are 2 issues with my car, one is the fact it weight around 700kgs, the other is the rear suspension is too soft causing the front to lift off under heavy acceleration.

I am running 225s on the front, on heavy 17" starcorps, and still traction is an issue. but the issue is mainly in relation to downward pressure on the tyres, not their stickiness

Get a front splitter and create some downforce!! :D

DinoZ Talks sh#t for a living.

If you decide on KU36s, I would recommend front camber be set to less than 1 degree and keep the pressures up (36 to 40psi) as the sidwalls are really soft. I only dial in more camber when I do track work and it really increases the wear rate on the inner edge. Doubt if I will get 14,000km out of this set.
