I'm having some random issues at the moment, the story is, about a week ago when driving the engine cut out on me while driving, the revs slowly died but before I came to a stop it kicked back into life and has driven fine since then until today. Today I was driving when the engine cut out and I came to a complete stop. I turned the ignition again and it started fine and I drove away, about 5ks further down the road it cut out again. So i pulled over to the side of the road and tried to start it again. It started fine but died after about 15 seconds. I started it a couple of times with the same result. I waited about 10mins and started it again. Started fine and didn't cut out, so I drove it to my mechanics about 30mins away with the car running perfectly the whole way. The mechanic put it on consult, no codes and no log of any codes, he fiddled with the electricals, CAS, etc, to try and get the engine to die. But as normal for a zed, there is only a problem when no one is around to see it. haha. He suggested that the S1 ptu could be dying and causing it so I'm finally installing my S2. So my question is if the S2 ptu doesnt help, any other ideas?
it should be against the law to run a S1 ptu. just change it even if you dont have problems. preventative maintenance bud
Ptu hasn't fixed it. Just went for a drive with the s2 ptu and it died on me again. So any other ideas?
Off topic - but my ex NA ran its original S1 since 1990 and its still going strong according to the new owner
Ok it now wont start at all. Tried the following Swapped ecu for known working Swapped cas for known working Can hear injectors tick over Can get spark, but it's weak Fuel pressure is fine
Did you use an adaptor harness on the ptu or solder in the s2 connectors? What is the fuel pressure? I know you say it is fine, but have you physically checked it? My spidey sense is saying FPCU failing.
Soldered in. Connection has been rechecked and the earth wire is correctly earthed. Fuel pressure was checked by my mechanic pulling off the hose up near the fuel rail and getting sprayed in the face.
Thats not really checking fuel pressure. Only thing that shows is the fuel line had some pressure when he pulled it off. So, check the fuel pressure or do the fpcu bypass that is in the tech section.
Asked him again about the fuel pressure and he seems confident it's the weak spark causing the issue. But agree its hardly a scientific measure, I'm home now but will call him back tomorrow and ask again. Thanks for your opinion
I had a similar problem on the freeway several months back, driving for 2 hours then lost power,100m down the road it fixed itself up then did it again and then continued to run fine.Pulled off the freeway and into a backstreet sat there for an hour checking things out and letting it cool in case it was heat related .Started normally and drove home with no issues until 5 minutes from home when it briefly chugged and then resumed. Checked with consult and it showed tps circuit fault.I had already installed a new tps a few months earlier but one connector was very dirty, gave it a clean and hasn't missed since. Could be worth a try.Consult doesnt always pick up everything everytime I have found.
Sounds like the fuel pump regulator. It has 2 or 3 stages (NA/TT) If it malfunctions on one stage like on low power it may stall on idle
when it died on the fwy it was at 80 km/hr, so not at idle? also dedzed, tps was at the right voltage and responded correctly with 0.2 V increases when the accelerator was slowly pressed thanks for suggestions
