    hey guys,

I finallly have time to install the alarm from the group buy last year, and was just wanting to check with everyone who installed them as to whether ther were any problems? I remember black-baz saying something about the alarm being rubbish - what was the problem with it? Id rather not spend days installing it if it is only going to play up.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    thanks,

    Peter

hi doc .... in retrospect, i really do wonder about the

value of this unit .. the purchase price plus installation would purchase a fairly sophisticated, brand name, 3 point, black wired system ...

for the last twelve months or so, one element of the horn alert ( when you arm the system) has not worked .. although i must admit to not having tried sorting this out with the malaysian manufacturer ...

there is no way the unit would operate at the claimed 3km distance ...

i believe that the g/b organiser (scottz...???) has disabled his unit ...

zed4life installed mine and has one installed in his zed .. would be worth checking with him for his views ....

    mmm

I think i may have bought one, if it the same alarm group buy i am thinking of, i'll go home and check, but the one i got is working and has been working perfectly, apart from one remote being totally scratched/smashed around and the other one now covered in electrical tape for longevity :)

I've installed sevceral of these alarms

and have one on my zed (it provides 2 of the 7 points of immobilisation)

I've had no problems at all although I'm aware of Baz's problems. His is the only one I can recall reporting issues. ScottZ (the original GB starter) still had the same alarm working on his car b4 he sold it.

Certainly if you are looking for security, then this alarm is pretty basic/easy to bypass (coloured wiring, external 'normally-closed' relay-so if the alarm 12v or earth wire(s) are cut the car is unprotected) but as a paging system to give you peace of mind when you are in the shops etc and for the extra features such as turning interior light on for 30secs on disarm, auto door locking, turbo timer etc it's got some great features. I wouldn't be endorsing relying on it as the primary security system though...

I have very detailed install instructions online for fitting this alarm to the zed. PM me for details. (I'll only provide these to members I know)

    Thanks Mark,

I plan to run it in conjunction with a BRANT Immobiliser. I have a copy of the instructions you provided when I bought the alarm during the group buy, although if zedcare was to re-open its doors, It would be tempting to get you to install it. hehe.

    thanks.

    Pete

a further issue with my radiostar unit ... after my

christmas eve swimming with the radiostar exercise, the alarm would activate when i attempted to access the car, could not disarm via the remote .. i would simply wait for the alarm to cease, key the ignition and drive off ..

does this not suggest that the immobilser elements of the unit within the vehicle are not activating ...???

am currently using the back up remote .. and the arm/disarm horn acknowledgement is a pathetic soft squeak ... not a major issue ... but ...

Sounds like the swim drowned the

remote control and the alarm brain is no no longer talking with it. If you can arm/disarm with the back up remote then the 'current' problem is with the 'wet' remote.

I recall reading there was a way to re-learn the remote so it would communicate with the system again. I'll have to take a look at the docs...

activates with the back up unit .. that should tell something ..???

    anyone else need replacement Remotes?

:zlove: I have one of those alarms and havent had any problems (other than the door solenoid is now playing up) but all in all seems to be working fine.

The only thing is that like many of you who installed this alarm, I am now down to my second remote, so i propose we investigate how we can get replacement remotes, as i dont think mine is going to last longer. But we need the contact address fromthe group buy? can anyone get the address or contact someone to find out??

If the problem with your remote is

that the fascia is all cracked you can remove it with a thin blade. The actual LCD panel below works fine being exposed. Also if the remote doesn't communicate with the system, it can be 're-learnt'. There's a section in the manual

mark .. tested the system today ... disarmed with the

mongoose remote, opened the drivers door which set off the radiostar alarm .. put the key into the ignition, car started without issue, alarm ceased after a short period and i drove off .... am i correct in assuming that the radiostar immobiliser points are not operational ..??? ..

That's somewhat alarming! Excuse the pun :D

Baz, why not pull the Radiostar alarm out and sell on Ebay for double it's value. ;)

Did you disarm with the radiostar

    remote?

Ifnot and you were able to start car then the immobilser brain (box) is faulty. If you could disarm with remote all ok.

Also look in the radiostar little book for the process of re-learning the remotes...

nope .. did not touch the radiostar back up remote ..
