Just came back from hour drive to hills and back to hear this noise. I'd say it's a lack of coolant, but before I left i filled up the radiator and I've had the whole cooling system rehosed etc. a couple of months ago. Will check levels when cooler, any other ideas on what might cause this noise?

I don't think it would be leaking already, though again, might have to check in an hour or two when it's calmed down. Nothing dripping from engine bay area at all.

Just sounds like coolant going into the rad overflow tank. To confirm over fill overflow keep engine running while doing so,after a long enough drive to get the coolant hot, if it starts dropping fluid on the ground from the hole in the overflow, thats what it is.normal after it gets hot, it will suck it back in later.

Is your radiator cap sealing properly?

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

THAT much air going anywhere is a bit of a worry actually.
pressure test for you and then a sniff at the radiator cap for engine fumes.

agreed, spot on what happened to bro's disco the other day... exhaust gasses were coming up through the radiator....

*sigh... off with the head gaskets.

Ohh just re-watched that on my pc, first time was on my phone can hear it alot better.
Hope its not exhaust gases getting into cooling system. Definatly doesnt sound normal there, that definatly needs to be investigated, goodluck mate.

So, radiator was full upon checking. Guess I'll just keep an eye on it and if it does it again start looking for head issues :/ Cheers all for replies

your blow off valves are on the wrong intake hoses :\

Shouldn't matter. After the turbos on either of the hoses and assuming the air pressure is constant throughout the pipe (which it should be if no leaks) then the throttle body closing will force out the air wherever the blow off valves are.

    Sounds like

sounds like it is just blowing over pressure into the fluid overflow bottle. The engine will actually get hotter when shut down due to no cooling fluid circulating. What pressure rating is the radiator cap, should be 1.2 bar for TT. If the radiator was full after cooling then the system is working correctly. The noise could be a partial block in the overflow hose or something in the overflow tank.

The cap is the stock one. I'm thinking it was just overflow bottle, as I don't think it would be exhaust gases given the engine was off (should of realised that straight away ;))

I'm thinking you should investigate Anti's thoughts on your problem because it does sound like that kind of noise. Even try placing your hands over the ends of the blow off valve vents just to see. Just make sure someone is sitting in the car incase it sucks your hand. Even listen around the timming area as could even be a pulley noise ?. Sound to noisy to be a coolant related problem. Is there any oil in water or water in the oil ?.

But the engine is off in the video and when the noise occurs. How could the BOV/intake system be involved?

My bad. I missed the part where it was off .
Might pay to make sure the radiator cap is good / tight. On my original Nissan radiator the little plastic tabs where the radiator cap goes on were worn enough to not pull the cap down tight on it's seal ( even tried a new cap ) and when i turned the motor off it would gurgle out into the overflow bottle then onto the ground. I stopped it by bending the cap tabs tighter with multi grips. Might be worth trying.
    Cheers Dave

Now that's a good idea. AFAIK, the radiator cap is the stock one so could definitly be loose like you said. I'll check it out.
