I'm going to clear my tail lights this weekend and I'm looking for a tip on how to cut the clear light diffuser. I have read that it needs to be cut with a grinder, but I don't have one and even if I did, I don't think I could handle it correctly to cut a clean straight edge.I'm thinking of using a jig saw with a fine tooth blade. Does anyone have any other recommendations?
This is what I did..... I tried the jigsaw and it didnt work. I found that the blade would get very hot and while it was cutting, the heat of the blade would melt the diffuser and let it join back together as the blade went through. Also, the diffuser is quite brittle and the quick action of the jigsaw would shatter the diffuser if it caught. Very frustrating. I used a very fine hacksaw and just took my time and very gently cut the diffuser that way. For the corner round bits I tried using a soldering iron to melt the diffuser but ended up cutting it with the hacksaw and then very gently used a bench grinder to shape the rounded corner. Also, a dremel does wonders at cutting it and this is what we used when we did (or attempted)a whole heap at Bens house. Goodluck with it gerhard. I wont tell you about all the grief I had, just do a search on taillights and my username and you'll find plenty. Definitely not something I want to do again..Cheers
Also seen a soldering iron and ruler used you just have to make a sufficient gouge and then you can snap them as the plastic is pretty brittle. Otherwise a dremel and cutting head makes light work of it.Ben
Let me know how you go... this is something I want to try soon.p.s. it's time we caught up for lunch again!
Angle grainder worked for me And these are the results, just take your time.:YD [image]http://www.photodump.com/direct/nzx300/DSCF0013.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.photodump.com/direct/nzx300/DSCF0014.jpg[/image]
