got done today for being in a 3 hour parking zone for to long. just wondering if the inspectors have to mark your tyres as there were no marks on any of my tyres (i had checked them an hour before i got the ticket. Took photos of all my tyres just incase i can fight it.

Couldn't you just say that you left, and came back?

Some of them also use special chalk now..

That can only been seen under special lighting. Its that some colour that fluoresces under blue lights in nightclubs .. not visible to naked eye..

Yes, correct. Marking the tyre is old school.

most nowdays use a machine that lets you enter the position of the kerb-side valve stems front & rear.
    ie: f=10o'clock / r=6o'clock.
Then when they come back in an hours time, they punch your licence plate back in and also the clock positioning of the valve stems again, and if they are still in the same position you get a ticket. if they are in a different poition - that assumes you have moved and come back or whatever.

The game I used to play with the regular meter men outside of my work is i'd wait till they record my postition, then just before an hour later I'd move the car about 6" forward which puts the valve stems out, and then he'll come back with his chest puffed out thinking he'll bust me and when he punches my position in again, he can't do anything about it and walks off shaking his head!!!:LOL:

There are actually some legal issues with Chalk Marking

Authorities are tending to stay away from chalk marking now as there has been some cases where people have taken cases to court and tried to charge the authorities for vandalism and tresspass.

Marking the position of the valve stems is now generally used, as the liklihood of both valve stems to be in the same position after a car has driven away and returned to the same spot is nearly impossible (I did say nearly).
