I just know i'm barking up the wrong tree on this, I bet these two things go hand in hand...
but anyways...We have all heard about how using truck intercoolers on cars is a big no-no, but what about truck turbos?Reason i'm asking: I work in the IT department of a major truck manufacturer, i've often wandered around the factory and drooled over the mo#$%er f#%king huge turbos that they fit to the engines, since i'm an employee i'm hoping that I can buy them quite cheap ;) ;)

Heaps of people have done it....

Plenty of people have done it to their turbo cars man,
A popular car for this mod has always been the old series 2(ish) RX7's...i can't think of the name of the group that do it to alot of them but when i do i'll post if for ya.
Word has it too...that a skyline called "WEAPN" (which is a f'n sik car!!!!) in newcastle has a turbo big enough to stick your head in...(and i've heard this thing go {:D }so i'd beleive it)...this could most likely be a truck turbo...if ya wanna know how to contact him to ask, just let me know....
Although, i have been told on good advice that this is alot of weight for a car and my theory is that youd have to have a good deal of NA power as i'd imagine it would take a truck turbo a long time to spool up due to the size and the shape of the spool (shape of teeth on spool etc....)cheers,Dave.

One of my friends has put a CAT earth mover

turbo onto a small block V8, which lives in an older model Celica. Pretty crazy stuff. The turbo is MASSIVE.

    yeah, but..

your talking about a low reving 8 liter+ engine. The gasses comming out of that at low revs fed through a small turbo would increase the spool up. Id suggest on a truck turbo the Z wouldnt pump out enough gases to get it moving.

    Yep

truck turbos are great for dyno queens who want massive numbers but only 500rpm to use them. They are way too big for a Z.... you're talking about a turbo designed for as much as 12L being given the exhaust flow of a 1.5L.Ben

    I drive a 400 hp volvo nl

and have done a lot of work on cats and detroits.
What most people dont realise that these turbos kick off at 700 rpm and by 1500 rpm the waste gate is open.So when you think on it 1500 rpm flowing a high compression 12 litre motor is moving only slight more gases then a 3 ltr zed at 10500 rpm. the other thing is the inertural is so strong the turbo will make pressure for 3-4 seconds after you backed off.the bad news... 600 degrees adn your fry a turbo..so it wont go behind a petrol motor with out serious mods
