My rear illuminated panel stopped working so I pulled it all out to see what was wrong. Found the contacts on the el strip had burnt out, so I moved them to new locations and the strip came back to life. So question is, does anyone know how to stick/attach the contacts to the strip?
As tempting as it is, I suspect it wouldnt give a good enough electrical contact. May try it though if I cant find the method used for production.
Not as stupid as it sounds, you can get a silver based glue that conducts electricity, we use it at work for attaching anode connectors to reinforcing in concrete pipe.. But it is expensive and must be used within 6 months from date of manufacture..
thanks didnt think it was too stupid sounding haha, i do electronics work, as long as the wire is touching the panel it would be ok, but after some thought on it, soldering it would be bad for the panel... there is some stuff you can buy at jaycar, cant remember what its called but its basically a silver conductive paint in a pen type tube thing, used for drawing out tracks on circuit boards, i used it to fix some non-working buttons on a remote once... if you cut the tube open and squeezed some out, that would make good contact... then once that is dry... maybe some hotglue or superglue over the top of that to give it some mechanical strength.. make sure the wires and being pulled or pushed, just sitting natural so theres no force in any direction on the connection you have made. hows that sound? (less stupid i hope haha)
duh english pwns me.... everytime i re-read a post of mine theres grammar and spelling errors haha... found the stuff... MG Chemicals CONDUCTIVE PEN Silver MICROTIP Jaycar part number is NS3032 doh its not in their system anymore... i bought it like a year ago, maybe it was a runout item http://www.jaycar.com.au/productVie...d2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID= but it says u need to heat it, which wouldnt be any good... i dont think.. i dont really know much about EL panels, ive got some EL wire and was keen to do the conversion on the center panel, just never found a source for the panel in oz... so far anyways... maybe try a google search for the pen...
