ended up doing a 57.8 after the Leader/Richmond diff gear upgrade (thanks Street to Strip), caught 1 of the GT40s but not the other one, think it ended up with a 57.5. I will post the full results when they are posted on the queensland raceway site, but pretty sure I finished 2nd again :Y also Paul was kind enough to bring along his video camera for some in car on track action, will post the vid here when Paul is finished editing it.
Nice work Pete. Seems like you've got them worried. How was the new diff setup, did it get you out of the corners any quicker?
yeah helped me out of the corners quicker but also felt like I had heaps more haul in a straight line too, she was hammering. Only thing is 4th gear maxed out around 190 and had to coast the rest of the way down the straight. the gears dropped my PB about 0.7 seconds from last time.
a couple of pics on the QR website from the day holy crap check out the body flex in the second pic!!
results are in first time I managed to beat the STis! beat one of the GT40s but not the other, beaten by 0.13 of a second errr!! there's always next time plus I have a new set of rears to go on the car which should help. here are the full results, 3rd fastest car on track for the day: http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au/sas-points.xls
*****GREAT DRIVING Pete................ ....what a very exciting and entertaining day. This guy sure can drive folks. Watching from the pits, saw absolutely nothing between the Zed and the GT40. The Zed was better under brakes and cornering, but the GT40 had the slightest edge out of the esses and turn 6. On the straights the grunt was almost identical. The only difference now is the transmission gearing on the GT40 and the power weight ratio. I reckon when Pete gets more familiar with his latest mods it will all be a very different story. Here are some photos from the day. There will be a video available both on-board shots and from the pit area, when all the editing is done. The first photo shows the Fleet Mobile ready to go just behind the Cobra. The second photo shows the FB having overtaken the Cobra, and breathing down the GT40's exhaust. Why not come out next time folks and cheer this great Zed on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Work Mate, Top stuff pete, i was there the weekend before for a drift event ... was not happy i couldnt stay for the next weekend to see u out there. Great stuff. Chris (myredzed)
Well done Pete ... Did you feel it was better to leave it in 4th? Not enough straight left to justify selecting 5th? I've really been thinking about the 4.11's. And the Silvia that cut 56.9's must be something hot? Cheers, Mikey.
diff problem is there was plenty of straight left, but the last time i tried shifting into 5th, I found it very hard to find 4th again, on one occasion doing a compression lock up at 150kmh and doing a 360, somehow the car stayed on the black stuff, was quite a moment! I recommend getting the 4.1 mod done, was talking to JP last night though, he mentioned there is a 4.5 diff mod available. I am however looking into getting a different ratio for 5th as it is useless to me at the moment. The silvia certainly was literally screaming.
.........RE 5th gear difficult I know what you mean with 5th down to 4th at that sort of speed, even though my Zed is not as quick as yours, it was still challenging. I found that when I installed the short shifter the down shift from 5th to 4th on the main straight just before turn one was no problem. I still had to get used to the down shift though, because on the street I hardly used 5th at all. Also the racing transmission oil helped as well.
