    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to get some advice about purchasing parts for my 280ZX from America.

I've located a site that seems reputable and done alittle background work, just to make sure that its not some dodgy company.

Now that I'm ready to get my hands on a front bar from them, when I place my order and pay for it (including shipping),

are there any more costs associated like stamp duties? if so, where would I have to go to sort anything like that out?

It's sort of my first time buying anything significant off the net as with the 300zx there are plenty of part here... but 280 parts are harder to come by....

    Thanks

    advice ??

    Fistly,
    Import duties
with the FTA [Free Trade Agreement} between the US and us, we do not charge import duties on US goods, Ie the drive shafts [ thanks Rob]

note that some customs guy MAY claim that as its a part manufactured in Japan/korea/italy and only onsold from USA that duty is still payable -- in which case just keep with the FTA with USA story and you will probably still get through.

    2nd
    GST
this tax is still payable, so 10% of cost [ including shipping] might be asked for - i do not know how to get out of that.

    3rd
If you are only getting small stuff, try to get them to use USPS [ official US Govt service} - it generally gets through without all the tax hassles, but does not provide tracking services or insurance cheaply - [if at all]. Its rates are on the USPS web site. It usually does not get customs tax inspections [ still gets all the illicit substances checks - so do NOT be Naughty !!!!]

    3rd USPS alternatives

USPS IS NOT UPS [ United Parcel Service } which along with most of the other freight services, EMS etc, do fill out all the customs paperwork that the US govt employees don't bother to usually. It will usually get customs inspection.

I am happy to be corrected by others

    All i know

from experience, is a lot of places wouldn't ship me the kit when i wanted to buy one for my 300zx, no matter how much i said i would pay extra ??? weird
just unlucky probably, so cool that they will ship.

Next I would use a credit card like visa or amex, or whatever, so you can cancel the payment on them if they do something dodgy ???

Ohh and if your buying interior or what not, just becareful of LHD over RHD as somethings do actually make a difference... usually really minor things but worth keeping in mind is all

It might be a silly question but I just want to make sure before I go ahead with the order, When I get shipped here, It will end up with customs, do customs then contact me to come pick it up?

    thanks again for the help...

    Customs ?

Customs do not recieve, they inspect and may confiscate, or levy duties.

What make you think you are having it shipped TO customs ??

I assume that the seller/shipper is going to put your name and address and contact number [ phone number is VERY IMPORTANT]on the package as the person to ship it to ?

It will be door to door ?

I must admit the question does not make sense to me, what exactly are you shipping ?

whole cars can be a problem, even if split up in seperate shipments.

if u want more info on buying parts from overseas go to the Australian

Customs site and u can get all the info u need.
But just quicly if the goods r shipped via the postal service than anything below 1000 dollars AUS does not attract customs duty.
Here is the link click me

This should give u all the info u need, and there is a calculator which u can use to work out all the related duties based on the value of the goods.

probably wasn't the best worded question, but you ended up basicly

answering it for me. The only reason I though Customs might hold on to the product (even though it would be shipped to my address) is cause I wasn't sure if they would hold the body kit till I paid costs they might wanted to charge, such as stamp duty (which dosn't apply anyway cause it's from America).

Thanks for the help and links guys....
