Ok first thing, Yes I have done a search, with poor results so... I understand that PTU's can fail due to heat/age/water ingress as I have learnt from my old skyline, so when people relocate the PTU's on the Z32's, where exactly is it relocated to?
Under the nose panel!!!....... Correct me if I'm wrong........but it was suggested to me to re-locate my PTU under the nose panel.......better air flow for cooling purposes.......easier to access if needed ie cleaning connectors etc.......& the wiring loom should have enough 'slack' to reach this location already???? Having said that.....it's still on my list of "things to do"!!!!!
PTU. i relocated mine infront of the radiator underneath the left headlight. had to strip the tape from the loom back as far as i could, tape it all back up neatly and routed it through a gap between the top left of the radiator and the support panel. gets lots of cool air now.
Yep, thats where I put mine. Just use the bolt thats already under the nose panel near the passenger side headlight to hold it in position. Makes the engine look neater too.
Hmm, the write ups in the tech section are interesting, but you are pushed for space in a TT, I wonder how well the last picture in the third write up would work if you mounted a 55 mm fan to the ptu ?
I mounted mine next to the battery on the passenger side fender bulk head, just had to extend the wiring for the temp sensors.
relocate PTU - hell - replace it with a series II relocate PTU - hell no - replace it with a series II - occasionally come up 2nd hand for between $150- $200. JMO
mine is in roughly the same location as that of GONZO.. .. the king of noses .. so why no nose pod .. oops ..pod filter ..gonz .. ???
I use existing wiring, no shortening, no lengenthing in relocating the PTU. My preferred location is above the fuse panel. I have done this on both my Zeds and it works fine. On my grey Zed, I have done over 60,000 kms (car total of over 175,000 kms) with the ptu relocated with no problems. The only mod is to slice off the edge of the foot of the fuse box. As you can see, I have only used 2 of the original 4 screws. Cheers, Peter
Best location is under nose panel. I had mine there for about 3 years with no problems (after one failed in the original position) & when I replaced it with a stage 2, from Caz, recently it was a 5 minute job. If you are keeping the stage 1 you may well be OK in this position, however I recommend carrying a spare just in case! It is the Achilles heel of a Z! (I intend posting my stage 1 for sale)
I replaced mine with the series 2 as well as relocating it under the nose. Also cut the plugs off the conversion harness and soldered the wires for maximum reliabiality.
