picked up my z last wednesday and this already.

when i accelerate it has a flat spot abot 1500 rpm. when i pump the accelerater it gets real bad. it blows out a fair bit of black smoke.
the fuel pump sounds like its reving at 8500 rpm and z doesnt start sometimes.
But sometimes its fine, doesnt skip a beat.
would this just be a buggered fuel pump or timing issues? anyone any ideas?

Could be a lot of things......>>

What have you checked so far?

    Is your TPS correctly adjusted?
Have you done a boost leak test?
Have you done an ECU diagnostic to get any error codes?
    What are the plugs like?
    What are the O2s like?
    What fuel are you using?
    How clean is the airfilter?

There really is a big list so settle down, do a bit of research through the Tech section, play with the search function to see if that will answer some of your questions, but remember that the car you now have is going to take work to keep it in tip-top shape so you are on a steep learning curve.

If you bought the car from a dealer then take it back and get them to look at it, if you didn't, then how mechanically minded are you?

    BP ULTIMATE 98% Octane...

i put an injector cleaning fluid in. I heard after not to do that as it corrodes your fuel lines. But would that fuel be too much for it?¿

bp ulimate gets a top guensey by most forum posters when talking

fuel ... and i followed reek's post of a couple of months back and gave my N/A a preliminary dose of redex injector cleaner, since followed by two of the recommended top-ups after each fill .. no performance problems at all .. and a seeming improvement in fuel comsumption when combined with the fitting of a pod filter .. don't know about the fuel line issue ...

Agreed, BP Ultimate is the preferred fuel by many Zedders and I dont think

there would be many of us that haven't run injector cleaner thru at some stage.:)
I will be at Oran Park on Saturday arvo if you would like me to run a diagnostic(DataScan) on it for you just let me know.

Like Wykked said it could be a lot of things...

However the first thing I would do is clean all of the coil pack connectors and the injector connectors. These get a lot of corrosion and are also prone to cracking due to heat. Bad connections make the car run real bad at times and then okay at others. Bad connections on the coil packs usually causes misfires which can be intermittent. Bad connections to the injectors cause hesitation and surges. The job will take a couple of hours all up but is well worth it. Even if it does not fix the problem it is well worth doing. There are Tech articles to help you, so have a go and good luck. Let us know how you get on, because this will eliminate some of the possible causes and you will have to be systematic but you will find the problem one step at a time.
PS Your Zed will love you for cleaning its connections!

    Cheers

I havent run an injector cleaner yet? is it safe? what brand?

Hey zedders interesting comments on the fuel.

I have an Na and i like to max out the mileage if im croozing and not getting into street fights with v8's or ricers..

What is a good injector cleaner?

What would be the process to run it through?

Also with fuel.. Ethanol fuel is flippen crap. The 98 oct is rubbish too it just burns too fast...

Mobil 8000 is the best IMO.. (good price and the car feels very smoothe on it) Shell 98 is very good and ill only go with BP if its at a good price but i try to stay away from the Monopoly BP market. The less proift BP makes the better it is for us.

    Cheers

I work with a couple of people with middle eastern backround (they have been here all their life) and through family that live over in the middle east they have been told to stay away from BP as they own most of the fuel here. They simply told me to go shell or mobil to reduce BPs market share.

Since I prefer Mobil and Shell i wont argue with them. People might not agree but i truly believe that Mobil is a cleaner fuel than BP.

    Cheers

    EDIT was to fix name.

azzurro .. both reek and i seem to have had reasonable results with

REDEX injector cleaner .. available from repco .. instructions on container .. a big slug first up and regular doses thereafter with each fill up ...

Caltex/Ampol/Woolworths have by far the biggest market share in Australia followed by Shell/Coles followed by Mobil and BP at almost the same level.

Exxon Mobil is the largest oil company in the world followed by

BP p.l.c which is a merged company of British Petroleum, Amoco and Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). Though BP is the largest oil and gas producer in the US.

In 2003 BP, the Alfa Group, and Access-Renova combined their Russian oil assets to create TNK-BP, Russia's third-largest oil company.

ChevronTexaco Corporation is the second largest US integrated oil company was formed by Chevron's 2001 acquisition of Texaco. The company owns or has stakes in more than 24,000 gas stations operating under the Chevron, Texaco, and Caltex brands.

I just don't understand why someone "from the Middle East">>>>>

gives a rats arse about who owns the petroleum in this country, given the fact that it is all controlled by OPEC, and that they don't care who buys it as long as they get to screw us at every turn. They don't pay $70 a barrel in the Middle East, and they definitely have the monopoly on crude oil.
But thanks for your answer, it does explain your earlier remarks.
