Sure but it's not going to continue to build power if it can't increase fuel delivery. The AFR will slowly lean out as revs build due to not being able to increase fuel. I agree it won't hurt anything provided the AFR doesn't go too lean, but explains his loss of increased power over a certain rev range.
I have to say the biggest improvement was the ic to tb pipes, it no longer falls off flat but still doesnt feel 100%.
Yeah if power was slowly dropping off I would agree. But he said it hits a brick wall at 6000 with afr still in the 11s Being off the map is never good but I don't think it's the problem in this case Boost leak test ?
Tried two different boost levels, at 10.5PSI the car didnt struggle as bad after 6krpm but again 64-6500 it won't rev (AFM 4.350v) INJ 98% at 7PSI the car revved fairly freely to 6krpm but again 6500 was a dead end (AFM 4.05-4.10v) - INJ: 85-88% Still raining a little bit so i may have to wait until next week to diagnose further.
Does it actually continue to rev to redline just with no power increase? Or does it actually completely cut out at 6400/6500rpm? ie like ignition or fuel or speed cut?
Its not really a cut so to speak its more like 6500rpm is the maximum the engine will rev to, it just stays there. Power starts to drop bad around 6k.
Okie dokie, tried two known good fuel pumps and changed to a turbosmart fpr800 with raised fuel pressure and no matter what the injectors max out and it runs like balls at 6krpm.
Are you sure there hasn't been a mistake installing the Cam Belt or the Cam Belt hasn't slipped ?? If it were, say, 2 teeth out and advancing the cams enough you would loose top end power and have really good low to mid-range like it sounds like you have. Don't know, might be worth a look ?
Thats my next look, i believe it may have been installed either wrong or if one of the heads had been machined previously it may be off a tooth or so. Also Niall i dropped it from the cats and still the same thing
definetely worth a look at cam timing then. ive come across them where locating dowels have been broken or missing, so even though the marks look correct they are misaligned. you will get to the bottom of it
Does it free rev to 7k? Also, AFM should be nowhere near that voltage at that boost. That is 400ish hp worth of measured air. Also, thinking out loud, possible really really big boost leak? Much air being measured, not many boosts at manifold.
I think that AFM duty cycle seems about right for manual turbos, for reference here are my values from when I had 370cc injectors and auto high flows: AFM: 4.7V IDC: 99% RPM: 6212 and comparison with current setup (550cc's and GT525s): AFM: 5.095V IDC: 94% RPM: 6512
Also im not sure how the AFM voltage would be so high because of a boost leak, the AFM is only measuring air that has passed the hotwire
the air passes the wire and then blows out the leak rather than going into the engine and making power
The VQ map is roughly (or maybe exactly?) logarithmic so 4.75 is quite a bit more air than 4.5. 4.5 is still quite a bit though.
I know that, however he wrote the AFM voltage shouldn't be that high on 12PSI and then says the car may have a boost leak. I've had the zed on much much more than 12PSI before.
