Hi all,Long time member, but first time i actually need some advice, hit a bit of a problem. Here goes, i have recently gone out and bought a new set of mags for mi babi, their deep dish 18".Front 235/40/ZR18
Rear 265/35/ZR18 Their really deep...Now mi problem occurs when i try to put them on i found they majorly hit mi break calipers. I then purchased 6mm spacers which gave them the clearance, but the nuts do not safely screw onto the studs. Dammit. Now i have been told three ways i can fix this problem, but their both expensive and or not sure how safe.1: Buy spacers with the studs built into them, both i think unsafe, and expensive, as weel as needing to cut the origional studs.
2: Get new studs pressed into the hubs. I cant find any where North of adelaide where i can get this done. Maybe not lookin hard enough.
3: Shave the 'Nissan' symbol off the calpier. Dont know much bout this...Anyways if anyone here could please give me some advice, or if anyone lives round the north of adelaide willing to give me a hand i would greatly appreciate it. I need these rims on as i have bolding tyres on the rims now and need replacements asap.Thankyou all.Ben

If they only just hit your calipers ....>>

and you have about 5mm space between the caliper and the rim (when the spacers are fitted then just get a file (<$10 from Super cheap, a flat bastard wil make quick work of it) and file the "Nissan" off the calipers.

    Preferred option should be>

wheels with the correct offset, NOT thicker spacers and longer studs. IB's filing suggestion is a "quick fix", but only if your rims are just skimming the caliper(you won't gain more than 2mm using this method).

I guess the real questions are "why did you buy rims with the wrong offset", and, "can you take them back and get some with the correct offset?"8( 8(

    DON'T USE SPACERS !!!!!! >>>>>>>>>>READ>>

ok having been a spraypainter for many years i have seen some disasterous results from people forcing things onto cars that are not quite right.
One bright spark decided to fix an offset problem with cheap spacers and wound up having the studs snap resulting in a lost wheel at over 140 kmh, he now is reminded of his stupidity everyday as his passenger was killed in the wreck, and why? all because he wanted to save a few bucks
Ok before you write this one off as a one of incident or a freakish accident take the following into consideration
The longer the stud or the more you space the wheel out from the mounting point no matter what size it was NOT meant to be there or it would come like it from the factory, move the wheel out allong the stud and that point is weaker instantly as you are increasing the pressure on the stud
still cant follow this then when you cant undo a nut what do you do? you get a longer spanner or a bar to extend the length and apply more pressure from greater leverage, it might only be 5 or 6mm your talking but a zed isnt slow and we all like a squirt every now and then. Im no engineer but im sure one will tell you that this practice is just plain stupidity
After that the only answer is to return or sell the wheels and buy the correct offset
sorry guy i know its not what you wanted to hear but having worked on tow trucks ive seen to much death in this lifetime from dodgy stuff such as wheel spacers and the like

Anyone know, someone who is in the market for a beautiful set of deep dish rims lol....SO basically, extending the studs using spacers with bolts is a no no too huh??... call me stoopid, but i really wanted them on there.... :`(

    How about a brake upgrade..>>

By installing bigger rotors, 324mm ver 280mm, the caliper will be spaced further out, alot of rims have a curved surface on the inside of the spokes.I currently have around 5mm caliper to rim clearance, when I get around to fitting the bigger rotors the caliper to rim clearance will increase to around 10mmAndrew

the rim should be sitting on the hub...

and not the wheel studs. I have spacers on the front and not the rear, I had a problem with snapping studs both front and rear and this was fixed bu using an alluminium hub spacer to make up for the gap between the hub and the centre of the wheel. THE studs should be tight enough to p[ress the wheel against the hub and the face of the disk which stops it from slipping as well.BB

    IB ?????

If the spacer is made correctly ...>>

so that it sits on the hub, is bolted on and provides the centre hub mounting, then it should be OK.
