Sorry about the new thread but the one i was posting in wouldnt have caught the eye of some techies out there.

My other thread is titled "Thermostat and Blocked Radiator checking.." if anyone gets confused or curious about the backgorund to this post.

I just read the Overheating Tech Article.
And its VERY Helpful. THanks to the boys who wrote it.
The good thing about it too is that its very universal.. i mean.. almost every line refers to both my non-zeds. so thats kool.
But basically.. i read in the article that you can do an engine flush by calmly running water from a hose in the engine inlet whilethe car is idling (and i assume with the radiator off) ... will this do the job and is it as easy asit sounds?
My thoughts at the moment are to drain coolant. take out radiator, double check all hoses etc. flush the radiator a little bit n try get an idea on blockage if any by watching the water coming out. Then to check (and most likely change) the thermostat .. and while thats out carefully flush the coolant out of the engine with water from a garden hose. And then to go and get the radiator pressure tested and rodded professionally and then reinstall the stuff and put new coolant and watch for any leaks etc.
and if the problem still occurs ill get the water pump changed (as ive always intended whether it broken or not) when i do the timing chain in a month or so.
Also, when ive re filled with coolant, ill leave the cap off and run the car in idle and as the coolant flushes through the empty engine.. the coolant level will drop and i will refill as i go. Is this the right proceedure?
Or would it be fine to keep cap on a refill after the engine has idled for a while (and then subsequently cooled) before topping up the fluid levels?

what you have suggested in the second half of your post sounds good to me.

don't forget to bleed the radiator as you are filling it otherwise it will airlock and will get hot verrrrry quickly!!!:)

Yeah i kept the rad cap off to bleed it.. but

couldnt find thebleeder valve on the block. I left it idle for 15 mins and then took itaround the block a few times and didnt get above normal running temp.
but i noticed ( i pulled over a couple times during the runand hada good look after to check fans and any water leaks) and found that the fanswerent on?
I havetouched an electrics or anything.. im gonna try it againlater and see if they come on(maybe i just didnt have it running long enough?) but any ideas why thefans couldnt be turning on?
This might explain the original overheating issue but i dont know where it could be going wrong?
