So a final update... Everything is now completed and has been running smoothly for the past week. A couple of small issues include: The ring gear being a little worn A small leak coming from the top of the timing case The drive belts where squeaking now adjusted. The boost gauge doesnt work ( i've purchased a new one to be fitted) And no air con at present...but will be fitted soon. Here's some pics of the final engine and a short vid http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=24qtr7s&s=7 Video sound quality isnt the best ( sounds much better in real life ) :zlove:
Okay everyone so a continuation on this rebuild is needed considering I have run into some problems now: Basically the guys who did my conversion didn't do a very thorough job now my Z is suffering, because of it... So to rectify this problem I payed JP a visit at UAS Bringing it in there I thought the turbos where blown due to excessive smoke blowing from the exhaust when the car was under load and tapping the throttle would cause smoke to billow out the back, the ring gear and clutch has also gone and I thought needed replacing... After assesment turns out the main issue was timing and now instead of running 130kw atw at 5 PSI (Basically slower than a stock NA :O) I'm now getting 245kw atw at 12 PSI :zlove: a nice healthy number... Further issues include: New Clutch replacment (Opted for a single plate as mine had a twin plate and probably didn't need it) Flywheel replacement: New chrome molly flywheel Injector plugs needed replacing O2 sensors where buggered Water temp sensor was buggered Also needed new brake pads (worn down considerably!) Was running an NA fuel pump and thus running out of fuel quite quickly: Replaced with TT Pump Triple core radiator for a TT didn't suit NA mounts and had to be changed to fit.... Radiator pipes and hoses looked at... Aside from this got the Brake calipers sprayed and getting a nistune.... Hopefully will have my baby back on Wednesday :zlove: Picture of my radiator mounts before fixing :O Hopefully will be able to upload some more pics soon...mainly of dyno sheets for before and afters and maybe a video
So now for another quick and overdue update: Power figures: Pretty satisfied with that considering its with minor mods and a fairly stock motor: 3 inch straight through single tip exhaust Nistune at 12psi Triple core radiator FMIC 2.5 inch intake hard pipes Stock internals Wanting to get up to 270 eventually on stock internals....safely though Any reccomendations on next mods? Also has a smoke issue that needs to be resolved...will post about this when it is being addressed...
Thanks for the input mate...yeah i had injectors as a possible performance mod next...do you reckon around 555cc will do the trick? and do they require any extra modification e.g. replace the stock ones or do they need a new fuel rail too? Is it safe to bump the boost past 14 on stock turbos? (currently at 12)
I'm running stock injectors at 16 PSI occasionally, of course it was tuned for it and quite literally is on the razor's edge lol. As long as she lasts another 2 months, I'll be happy with that Both Turbos and Injectors just couldn't handle anything past 16 PSI, at least on mine. You can click my garage link in my Sig for my full mod details. MoulaZX
Very healthy power figure for a mere 12PSI! Fantastic, must have a great tune, or a very healthy engine Bigger injectors and wind that boost up a notch and see what she pulls.
Yeah you are running a similar setup to me, with the exception of ur exhaust setup, I have FMIC instead of SMIC and you have aftermarket BOV's....Think I would be comfortable bumping it up to 14 with some injectors anything past that and I'd be worried Thanks man glad to hear it's good...I wasn't sure haha....yeah thats the plan hopefully get 14PSI and 555cc injectors soon down the track...yeah it would've been a good tune UAS did it for me it did actually make 245 at one stage but was leaning out a bit....the engine itself I don't believe is 100% healthy....once it is I'd expect to see these current figures rise on the same setup :zlove:
Okay so new update: Due to a worsening smoke issue thats been occuring since i got the engine converted I think it's time for another visit to UAS....blue smoke coming out the back and a suspected blown turbo hopefully not! either that or internals...either way looks maybe a little grim *sigh* Gotta hate mechanics who do dodgy engine conversions! luckily JP from UAS is here to rescue So hopefully will be seeing a much healthier (or possibly new engine (worst case scenario!)) in a few weeks time...will keep everyone posted Also have a new series 2 PTU unit to go in! which I picked up for a bargain! Hoping for a little more power and a much healthier Z that I can zip around in with only minor servicing once fixed! Has been so many constant issues with this car mechanically, but hoping this will be the last of the big problems... Keen to hear any comments you guys have! DJHZEX :zlove:
What did the mechanics do dodgy first time round??? All these small easy fixes should have been done before the engine went back in...
Thats what they did dodgy haha...they just did the engine swap and changed outside seals and waterpump, and the belts and gave it to me saying it was running fine with just a ring gear problem and a small oil leak...turned out to be alot more and when i took it back for small fixes they ended up making things alot worse its a mistake i wont make again...i trust JP with my car having taken it to him twice now and with no problems and everything fixed! can't wait to get my baby fixed by someone who knows what they are doing even though it might empty my wallet a bit :zlove:
BIG Update So time for another (slightly overdue) update... Car is back from UAS and now happy to say (touch wood) problem free.... Turns out my old motor was toast low comp across cylinders, blown drivers side turbo and possible lurking internal issues causing alot of smoke blowing out from the exhaust Result: New engine! All necessary deletes done, engine painted, tuned, and operating correctly The engine itself is pretty amazing....yet to take it for a decent drive, but must say it's alot quicker than my old one or at least feels it.... Just from swapping the engine I went from a 236kw stock engine to a 253.3kw stock engine pretty happy with that result! Definently content with the power....is a little bit unruly with a NA diff but will have to cope..... Enjoy some comparison pics of old and new Old: New:
It's getting closer! Runs like a dream and spins them through first and second at only 8.5 PSI. One last problem - passenger turbo is leaking oil on boost
So time for another update....engine has been running smooth without issue...due for an oil change in about 1000km's and a coolant bleed apart from that all smooth in the mechanical department.... In other news just bought a new front strut brace and hard-race front tension rod bushings, as my old OEM ones are on there way out.. Pics: Pics fitted: Need some help getting the old OEM bushings out as the 17mm bolt is giving me some hell! anyone near the shire area and keen to help? need a portable rattle gun , impact sockets and a facility with a hydraulic press. Noticed a great improvement in stiffness in the front end from the strut brace...even though it was an ebay buy i feel it delivers the goods... Looking forward to replacing the bushings and get a wheel alignment will hopefully notice an overall minor improvement in handling.... Also considering getting this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/18073501...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1284wt_1139 Anyone had any experience buying this package and installing and what sort of differences did you notice? Also in on a non-technical note bought a pre-cut window tint on ebay for 10$! perfect fit and worked a treat... Trialled it on my driver's side window: Comparison to passenger stock: Will be buying the whole kit to do every other window soon.
