Original rear trim for Z32 2+0 1992 TT

  1. Hi fellow Zedophiles.
A gentleman (he was that after backing into my Z and coming in to the RSL to advise me - rare that!) as I mentioned backed into my vehicle with a Colorado ute and totalled the veilside wing that was there when I bought it.
Personally I hated the thing. Side screws always going loose. Bad visibility out the back. Just ugly. He may have done me a favour.
As I am sure you are aware under the veilside is the remnants of the original bottom lip to the tailgate is the position where the black perspex strip that carried various logos lived. I have ordered a JDM part from Nissan with Nissan on the left and Twin Turbo on the right but my question is do I need additional parts to go with this as $40 landed seems too cheap. Particularly for a JDM OEM part.
If I am totally wrong does anyone have the bits I need and is willing to send it to Tasmania with me paying a fair price plus freight?
We continue to learn don't we. I had never heard of a power transistor until after mine went belly up in the front of the express lane at the Gateway bottleshop at 515pm on the Friday of a long weekend. All noise stopped and the "fun" began getting her out of the way and trucked to the mechanic.
Lovely to read all the other projects and info in here and thank you for allowing me in.
    Best regards

    Hi ron
    Welcome to the madness.
I agree the Perspex part does sound cheap.
Are you removing the wing and going "Brazilian" ?
That strip is referred to as the "third brake light assembly" and is usually quite expensive.

Can you post a pic of the part you're referring to?

From the sounds of it you mean the 3rd brake light panel that fills in the rear of the hatch. These don't come with stickers new, and cost more than $40 (I sell them for $350 for eg). You may have just purchased the stickers.

Anyway pictures would make it clearer

Sounds like you have ordered decals.

Z32's built from 07/1989 up to 09/1993 have a black decal under the rear spoiler.
On the left side is another decal "Fairlady Z".

Z32's built from 09/1993 to the end of production have a black coloured plastic strip mounted on the rear hatch.
Vehicles without a rear spoiler also have the black plastic strip.
This strip also includes the third brake light, being JDM it also would have the "Fairlady Z" decal on the left side (purchased separately).

The third brake light strips that have been exposed to sunlight over the years change colour to a slightly reddish colour.

The "NISSAN" & "Twin Turbo" decals were fitted to U.S. spec vehicles & are not available under JDM part numbers.

  5. I find out this afternoon. Ordered through Nissan who sourced it from Nissan Japan.
Apparently the package is quite long so I live in hope!!
It only took a week and a half to get here which amazed me and the guy at Nissan.
    I will advise!

  6. Thanks Rob
I'm a bit useless with posting pics but will try (and if I fail find a neighbours kid to do it for me).
I get the part this afternoon and will advise.

  7. No Brazillian and I have got my paws on a JDM spoiler that will actually allow me to use the centre rear view mirror! Quite happy to get rid of the Veilside wing that came with it. Very poorly made and the slightest nudge pops them.
I get the part today so I will advise. Apparently the box is quite long so I will advise.
    Thanks and best regards

Try the tutorial in the stickies in this forum -let me know if you have trouble with it

  9. Yep- they just ordered the bleeding decals!!! Aargh!

May I please ask if anyone has access to the actual part number(s) for this bit?

As I said if someone has one that is surplus to requirements in good nick I would be happy to buy and freight it.

Can't blame the very helpful bloke at Nissan. He sent me a pic of the schematic he has to work off and it is absolutely kids drawings with numbers and lines you can't follow.

It's getting as easy as retuning Concorde to service.

    Part numbers

    Part Number: 26590-30P15
It is called "Stop Lamp Assy - High Mounting".

The "NISSAN" decal is Part Number: 93094-30P00

The "TWIN TURBO" decal is available in two versions.

This is one of the Part Numbers: 93094-48P00 (late style after Sept 1993).

  11. Brilliant East Coast and thank you so much.

  12. Hi Rob

The guys have come back with a part number of 16590-30P15 which looks like the correct bit - but - it has the embedded brake light and I am not convinced the '92 JDM (April '92) had the brake light and also if the wiring is even present.

It has been mooted that you are a potential supplier of the impossible (fame can be a bitch! - I know - I am allegedly a Travel Guru) and as such are you able to procure and sell me the item, either with or without the brake light? A price with freight to Tasmania would be good if it is a possible.

Hi, no problem I have one ready to ship. The park is $350 and includes the panel, brake light, wiring and fixtures. I'd need a postcode to give you an exact price but to give you an idea delivery to Hobart is $20 including insurance and tracking etc.

  15. That sounds brilliant Rob. Postcode is 7310 (Devonport) and you can get me on time on 0419 323989. Please advise account details etc. My postal address is Knight Flight Travel, Ron Knight, 5 Longview Crescent, Devonport, Tasmania 7310.
    Thanks and best regards

    mrkarter77 No Really, They do!!!

Might want to keep that to PM

  17. Welll - Miss Z is all better and is wearing lovely new clothes. Full repaint with just the wing mirrors to go and looks great!
Got a new 3rd brake light bar from Rob260 brand new in box for less than Nissan wanted for a part they didn't have. Keep that gentleman in mind. Amazing service.
My question now is re the stickers for the upper brake light panel.
I have the original (American unit Nissan - Twin Turbo) sticker roll but my bodyworks guy freaked as when rolled out the strip was longer than the area it has to cover.
I am assuming there is a trick to this but would appreciate advice re the procedure to apply this to the vehicle. Is it in 2 parts, does one align it to the part, stick on the wider strip and then remove the overlay?
    Any advice would be helpful.

    Best regards all

Don't understand what you mean by "when rolled out the strip was longer than the area it has to cover."
The decals usually come as two separate items.
They have a lining attached to the sticky side & also a clear lining on the visible side.
Remove the sticky side lining, align the decal where you want it, being very careful that the position is correct because you only get one go at putting it on, & carefully apply pressure to the decal then remove the clear lining.
Make sure the position is correct & level as the strip is curved where the decals are positioned.
Check out US Z32 images for correct positioning.

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

Confusing - do you have actual Nissan part number/s for what you have received? Is it possible that the "long strip" is this part, which is actually designed to go on the hatch when fitted with an early series rear spoiler?

If so, it is not designed to be used on the rear brake light panel as supplied by Rob.

Photos would help, if you aren't sure about posting here, email to me at rzmikey@y7mail.com.

  20. It's a single strip EC.
My guess is that it just needs to be cut in two as the NISSAN and TWIN TURBO appear to be the only items and that the rest is just to line them up on the vehicle.
    Thanks for the advice.
