1989 TT Auto Just got it back on the road but it will only select 1st & 2nd gears, no overdrive either, power light flashes now and again, has fresh oil. Have tried various TPS settings to no effect. Where should I start.
Check the wiring and linkages on the gearbox, something may have come loose or isn't connected properly.
Connect to ConZult & check for codes. No codes, take it to an auto transmission specialist & get a quote on repairs.
I had a similar issue It wouldn't go anywhere in drive and would move when you manually select 1st and 2nd (would only move in second if hold was on). Did everything including auto diagnostics (flashed 10 times evenly indicating no errors), TPS was in range (0.45v, scanned for codes, I even changed the transmission filter and put new fluid in making sure it was inbetween the levels on the dipstick. I borrowed a friends Auto ECU and it still did the same thing. In the end we just replaced the auto box at the QLD TechDay last year

Thanks for all the input guys. Well I haven't had much luck though. Tried to do the diagnostic check several times but it just would not go into diagnostic mode. Tried to use the Conzult softwear but it would not download onto either of the 2 computers I have. Might just look for a second hand tran to swap out. Contact me if you know whos got one in WA.
