Fitted a one-piece tailshaft today, and what an incredible improvement it is.:YD :YD
For the past 4 years I have been living with a constant vibration and a low rumble from the two-piece original.Three times we have replaced the centre bearing, with only limited improvement for a short while. The new shaft has a V8 Commonwhore front yoke, and the BIGGEST rear uni I have ever seen (The flange has been machined & drilled to mate-up with the Pinion Shaft Flange/CV Joint Flange). The best $550 I've spent so far, and the whole thing only weighs 8KG (6.5KG LESS than the factory shaft.)Cheers

    Interesting >>

I'll wait a while to see if this new shaft can handle the extra HP that your car puts out.=)
Iam surprised that it weighs that much less.
But it sounds as though you will of finally solved your centre bearing problem, & that's great mate.:YD :-Z

    Max....

I had a one piece tail shaft put in by Nissport. Got rid of lots of vibrations (centre bearing and uni joints were knackered) and only cost be $500.Cheers

A similar shaft is going to be fitted>

to UAS's Project Z next week, so I doubt that I will have any problems in respect to power handling.Cheers mate

There are a few difficulties relating to >

building a 1 piece T/S for a TT, that are not encountered on the NA T/S.Because the TT has a CV joint at the rear end, both the rear uni flange and the diff pinion shaft flange, need to be machined/modified.Obviously the CV joint is 'done away with', but the uni flange is modified so that the original 6 bolt mounting to the diff flange is retained.Cheers

    Good stuff :YD >>

Is this mod suitable for a 2 seater?

I suspect my uni joint is worn and requires replacing. I get a whining noise when I feather the accelerator at beween 80 - 90km/h and have been told it's most likely the uni joint.Where did you get it done?

    yep, 2 seater......

mine isn't made from anything funky, I think its just steel or whatever the stock shaft is made from. I didnt change it for power gains, but rather to remove the feeling of driving a washing machine when the car was cold. The vibrations were bad. There are other materials you can get your tailshaft made from, but when I heard the prices I laughed..:)Cheers

Re: have had a single on mine for a year ,and

    Hi

I was searching through the forums and saw you got a one peice tailshaft made for your zed. Where did you get it done in perth, and how much did they charge?

I have this vibration problem either with my center bearing or uni joints and heard that a 1 peice is the best way to go.

    Cheers,

    Dane

Mate i know ur after outright numbers here....

So spend 500-600 bucks and get 1 out of interest you could get 5kw more u never know.. Usually its better cos theres jess energy (power lost) in the middle through the centre bearing. so a 1 peice is more effeciant... as i said might squeeze a couple of RW HP u never know

Do you know the spec of the pipe they use, as I am thinking of having

one engineered up here for me. How many mm thick is the steel.

Machine a centre piece for the rear

end with six counter sunk high tensile bolts to fit dif. then spin its centre for a heavy four bolt uni joint and tap the holes in use hightensile bolts again, make your tailshaft from this forward one piece there for no more vibration from sound deadining cardoard fitted to old original tail shafts that comes loose with age.Chris K.

I also have a one piece tail shaft...cost me about $500 too....also heard if you go through nissan genuine parts it cost about $2000!!! CRAZY
I have had mine for about 8 months now, and it is the best...when i first got the car i had vibration sound, ticking sounds and some other sound...and when i got the one piece it went all quiet...got rid of 3 problems all in one go ...anyway just thought i would say i recommend this also :D

Re: Machine a centre piece for the rear

Think i will definitely replace mine with a one piece when the centre bearing gives up the ghost. Just gotta keep the car on the road long enough to clock up some miles to wear the bearing out ;)
