Does he rebuild the engines on a commercial basis? If so could you PM me his details, I am looking at getting a forged bottom end done at some stage. Bolting the hardware together isn't really an issue, more to do with bearing sizing/machining/balancing etc (I don't want to machine the crank journals).

Not on a commercial basis. I'll talk to him to see if he is interested on taking any extra work and get back to you.

Update time. Got to the point of turning the key to start up the motor about a fortnight ago. But just before I did I filled up the radiator only to find it wouldn't get full. Looked under the car and water was pissing out at the back of the motor. After swearing HEAPS!!!, realised that one of the water pipes must be cracked. Bugger!! Hopefully I can get to without pulling the transmission out again. Will see this weekend.

Picked up the 370z. Nice ride, its smooth, sedate and civilised as a daily. Luv it, but as far as shear raw power and that throw you back into your seat feeling goes, my 2+0 300zx wins hands down :)

    We finally got it running.

Yes, we finally got the 2+2 going. We fixed the water leak which turned out to be a split water pipe, which meant another plenum pull :(
Then other issues started showing up. One of the injectors was stuffed, bolts were loose, then it wouldn't fire on one of the cylinders which turned out to to be a bad solding job on the PTU pigtails. But we got everything fixed and then we noticed that timing belt was out one notch  which means a 100km service shortly to replace the belt.

Anyway, its all going and ready or the drive up to Goulburn at Easter. The motor seems very solid, although it is idling a bit fast given the advanced timing. My sons now got to get use to driving it and the HD Exedy Clutch isn't making it too easy for him, especially when his previous car was an automatic Subaru. But if you drive a Z you got have a strong left leg.

If you drive a zed you've got a strong middle leg IMO

I agree with Anti, but I would add this is a auto to manual conversion with no Vacuum clutch booster, which always makes it fun to drive!!! No limpy legs in this household!!!
