Hey Kids, the Z is finally back on the road, but I've got a question as a result of some funny happenings when I started it up for the first time.

Whilst I was doing the 100K srevice, I drained the oil, and replaced it with the Amsoil 20W50 (previously running 10W something), but I left it draining for a day or two, so it should've been pretty dry.

On start up it was making a hell of a din, like valves with no oil in them, and it took nearly 15 minutes of idling (up to temperature for about 5 or so mintues) and a few gooses of the throttle before it all started quietening down, and now is running quite happily, and quieter than it ever has before.

But it seems like an awful long time for the oil to finally work its way around the engine, so I'm wondering if my oil pump might b clagged?

My oil pressue gauge (I thought) carked it about 6 months ago, and now just sits half-way between 0 and 4 and doesn't move, but after this episode I'm wondering if it's not the gauge at all but actual low oil pressure? Or both?

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers
    Andrew

Mine was similar after it was off the road for three weeks

when we did the plenum pull - polish and push.
I almost had a heart attack when I heard it running, but after 5-10 minutes it was all good.

    Heart attack about covers it!

Yeah it was up on ramps for about 3 weeks. Thought I'd done something majorly wrong with the timing belt or something at first. Nasty bloody noises it was making...

Don't forget to recheck your oil level after that noise quitened down...it takes a fair wack of oil to fill up all the bits that won't empty on a standard change, but will drain over time if left for a while...like 3 days. :)
