In the perfect world, oil pressure should sit on 2 when the engine is warmed up, and on 4 while driving. But the nissan sender is prone to screwing up and can fluctuate greatly. If concerned, hook up a different oil pressure tester and check it that way. The nissan unit is ok when new, but as it ages, it can be un reliable.

    Re oil pressure gauge

My car occasionally dropped to zero at idle and then it started to do it when cruising. Apparently from all the past posts this is nothing out of the ordinary but just to be sure I fitted a test gauge (which I will fit permanently later) and my oil pressure was OK. I tested my actual gauge as well (resistance test) according to the workshop manual and it didn't test correct either!? So I'm not sure that fitting just a new sender is the solution. I'm going for a whole new system just to be sure. Even though you know your gauge is wrong it is a bit unnerving to see your gauge at zero when you are doing 3000 rpm.

I just gave my zed an oil change. Mobil 1 syn 5-50... It now sits 2mm above 0 on idle and the 2 at 3000 rpm. when its cold the pressures good. Going to have to try pressure gauge...

Yup -that's about right with Mobil

I ran Mobil 5w50 when I first got my Zed a few years ago, and that's exactly where mine sat. I then went to a 15w50 and needle sat on 4 while driving normally. I currently use a 10w50 and the needle sits on about 2 while driving normally.

    Cheers,

    Peter
