Got my 300zx over a year ago in bits and yesterday fired her up for the first time. Silly question here but do these cars have a low oil pressure light on the dash or is the oil pressure gauge the only indication of the pressure status? When I turn on the key there is no oil light. Cant believe there would be no bright red oil warning light. A gauge needle sitting at "zero" while whacking it is not going to catch my eye.

No warning light, common problem is the oil sender gets clogged and often drops to 0 pressure when the car has warmed up. Solution is new sender although some senders can be revived by carefully drilling out the small hole in the end to remove the 20 years of crude and allow the oil back in to trigger a pressure signal from the semder

Thanks lurker_nz for the confirmation, yes I have cleaned the sender and the gauge is working.
