Hi Guys I've sprung a bad oil leak at the rear top of my engine at a Motorkana. Got 3 runs in then oil covered my engine and was creating lots of smoke. We've pulled the plenum off and it appears to be leaking from the drivers side rear intake cam seal or VVT solenoid. Can oil leak through the centre of the solenoid or is it just around the seal? Is there anywhere else on the back of the motor on the drivers side that the oil could be coming from? 2 weeks ago i replaced the cam seals, PCV lines and did all the Plenum pull bypasses. Up until today there has been no oil leaks. What could cause a brand new seal to suddenly start leaking? everything was all nice and tight and the gasket is still like new. Anyone had anything similar? Cheers, Brendan
when you did the plenum pull, did you replace the half moon seals at the back of the rocker covers and apply sealant on the grooves? did you also apply sealant on the grooves of the VVT solenoids? what about on the corners of the rocker cover gaskets?
Didnt change the half moon seals but checked that they weren't leaking and they still look ok. I didn't remove the VVT solenoids when i did the PP. Used loctite sealant on all the cam covers but maybe not enough on the inake cams It just seems weird that it would go all of sudden and to cover the engine with that much oil. I thought i may have over boosted and blown the seals but peak boost only hit just over 15psi Going from the oil in this picture i would have to say the leak is either the intake cam seal or VVT solenoid. Just wanted to see if there were any other areas to check while it was apart.
For that Amount of oil, i would say that one of your inlet cam cover gaskets has not been sealing properly. They can roll on their side if not installed properly. Smoke will be from the oil dripping onto the exhaust system.
well there are a couple of places your leak could be coming from, if you havent done the half moon seals and re-sealed the VVT solenoids.
