So i just drove my brother to get some smokes, he comes running out telling me to stop the engine. I get out and theres a truckload of green (guessing radiator fluid) rusing out from under the car. So i do the stupid thing and drive it back home (2 streets away) and get out to see wtf happend.. By this stap the engines Hissing and i figured i'd blown a gasket.. So i let it cool down for a bit, take the radiaator cap off and no water!! WTF! i filled it up less than a week ago before i drove to the coast. . . So i turn the engine over and slowly dribble water into the radiator. . . filled it back up took it for a spin, no change in performance and no running water.. So i ask, have i broken something? Is it possible within a week i've used up all my water? Also... are there any other release valves other than the one on the overflow? I'm confused..
dont you think you answered your question on ur own??? if u are still confused, you have a leak. take it down to a rad place and get them to pressure test the system and see where the leak is coming from.
Agreed, get it tested and avoid driving it. The first problem I had with my Zed was a leak and it turned out the be a stupid little hose behind the engine that, no joke, required the gearbox to be dropped to have it replaced. It took a hot day to turn an unobvious little leak into a complete failure.
Yeah well it was pretty freaking hot today, however my temp gauge didnt even read over half when the radiator fluid decided to bail.. so thats another thing thats obviously giving me bullshti readings.
You have a leak somewhere Scott. You need to work out where it is coming from. It could be anything from a simple hose failure to a waterpump on its way out. One possible reason it may not be obviously leaking after it dumped coolant then refilled it is that the radiator may not be pressurising. For example, when I burst a heater hose, I refilled the radiator and loosened the radiator cap and was able to drive the car the few K's to get home without losing much coolant. If it is a hose, then you should suspect that all hoses are iffy until you've checked them out. Cheers, Peter
agreed and hi Pete Hey Scott, not that i have met you as such yet. Anyway. I had a similar issue, thought not as bad, i caught a odd smell the other day, and noticed i had radiator fluid leaking from my top hose, (steady drip). I took the hose off, cleaned the pipe, put it back on.. held good for a day then this morning (same thing) but worse... Only happened after i cleaned out and changed my radiator fluids about a week ago..Does ur radiator still pressurise? Otherwise, despite it not leaking, go get it tested, best and safest way mate ..
any idea where the puddle was when your brother saw the fluid leaking? front or rear of the engine? if its rear, it could be a heater hose or one of the rear hoses. when my zed had a leak it wouldn't happen straight away, would take a while for it to start leaking then it would come pissing out. turned out to be the heater hoses.
I drove down to pick my brother up from the mechanics and the zed started pouring out smoke, so now his 180 and my 300 are in getting a full check as to what the problems is. Hopefully its just a few hoses i need to replace and not the latter.
RIGHT. The temp guage will not go above normal reading air temperature alone. The air in there just doesn't get hot enough to start the needle rising above 95 degrees.
Indeed. Often air temp wont even be enough to register on the gauge at all so it seems to be cold rather than hot.
so $1300 for a new water pump, radiator hoses, and a timing belt... does that sound even remotely right to you guys?
yeah i figured i would, and he said that just because it hasnt been done he mayaswell do it while his there.
Get the full 100,000km kit from Caz or TTZED. It will end up costing the same, or maybe a little more but it will be worthwhile in the long run.
