    THEZED Loose Screws Inside

    Hi everyone

I am back again in the technical section. Gawd, it's not good that I end up in this section so often of late and on the end where I am asking the questions instead of answering.

Ok here's the question for the night. I have done an auto to manual conversion. Everything was working fine and the gear box seems tight enough.

    indicator 1:
This evening I noticed some rattling or almost grinding like noise when driving. I cant really discern which it sounds closer to (rattling or grinding), but anyway, the noise is most prominent at around the 2.5 to 3k rev marks.

    indicator 2:
Downshifting, from 5th to 4th is difficult. It always seems to grind when doing that gear change (downwards change). 5th to 3rd gears are fine. It is just the 4th gear. There are no noise issues going 3rd to 4th.

    indicator 3:
About 1 hour ago, I needed to go to the local shops to pick up some groceries. I had difficulty entering into reverse (since I need to reverse out of the car port), then once I got out, I had difficulty going into first gear. Both times when I managed to get into the gear, it went crunch, like I have to force them in. (both times, I made sure that the clutch is fully depressed) It's almost like seized gears (dont know if this is the right term). And driving indicator 1 becomes more prominent. The funny, rattling or grinding like noise. It is hard to discern the exact sound because of the road noise and exhaust.

Ok the theory I have is that it is low on gear oil. Even though the person who helped with the conversion was fairly certain it was full. There are no known leaks. (the ground where the car is parked is dry and looking under the car, there does not seem to be any wet spots). I will check this again as soon as I can.

Beyond this, does anyone else have a theory what can be the cause of the above? Also any one have any clues to how much a gear box rebuild costs?

    Thanks again in advance.

make usre the oil level in the gearbox is right firstly

next thing is to see if the clutch is completely disengaging. so this by jacking the car up and securing on 4 stands. put hte clutch in to the floor and select first gear. keep the clutch on the floor. if the wheels are turning then your clutch is not operating correctly which will make shifting difficult.

If the wheels are not turning and clutch is operating correclty then your box is stuffed, 4th gear syncro worn out and it will need a rebuild

    2. yeh sounds like the syncro's r warn. Check the oil levels or try different oil in there. Redline lightweight shockproof seems to be good on slightly worn boxes, it usually sorts them out..

    3. check the clutch is disengaging properly as said above
and possibly not blead fully. sometimes they can be a PITA to bleed fully
