So, I go to pick up the Z after a hell of a time with the painters and the front bar... and they haven't painted the bonnet! "We didn't think you wanted the bonnet done, I thought you wanted it with the CF bonnet as is?" For godssake people, yes, fair enough, some people like the CF bonnet look, but I clearly said I wanted the damn bonnet painted too! Sigh.. the rest of it looks a million bucks, but it's not rocket science people!

So now he's saying he'll do the bonnet, but as the CF bonnet is a bit ripply, they'll have to fill it a bit to smooth it out, and can't guarantee it'll be as smooth as stock etc... I've had enough of these clowns, I will be going elsewhere, but out of interest has anyone else their CF bonnets painted? Any problems?

    Cheers

    Andrew

Is it an option to just get the bonnet clear coated?

Keep the CF look, no filling and nice and shiny.

Nah, it's the CF look I don't want.

I got the CF as it was a good price at the time and it was vented. I got it for the vent, not for the CF and was always intending on painting it.

I've never heard of anyone painting any CF parts..

Though I agree, I don't really like the CF look either.

Hate the look of carbon fibre. Makes a car look cheap IMHO. I didn't think there were any issues with painting over it though.

Nah, I wouldn't have thought so either...

I'd say this guy is just good at creating issues where there are none!

    Thanks Man.

It'll be a lot sweeter when it's all the same colour!

    Re: CF bonnet

I bought my CF bonnet because it was on sale $399 and because of the vents, i really didnt want CF look.

First three places I went basically told me I was stupid and making a huge mistake (covering up the CF)......blah blah blah. They obviously didnt get my hard earned $$$$. The last shop I went took it without commenting on my stupidity but did offer me several options 1) paint all 2) paint half red and half clear red and 3) not paint just install.

So to make a long story short I went with option 2. Took a while of getting use to but I now love it, something different.

Oh yeah they do have to sand the gell substance out so the paint can stick. Done properly it should look similar to the original (apart from fitment - dependant on the mould).

Painting cost me more than the bonnet. Mine cost $500 ($350 all painted).

I'm not a big fan of the CF look either

however if u got it flaunt it?

It does look funny on some colours though. Red/burgandy don't look that great.

white and blue are pretty good

    I reckon on the Z

you also need a matching nose panel for it to look good.

Heres mine from Mr Zee's Tech Day

The middle bit has dark/clear/flaked paint, best thing is that you can still see the CF.

    Its a funny thing, CF

Some pictures/angles it looks crap, some it looks good. Some colour cars (to me) look okay, some not so good. To not look as funny it does need a carbon fibre nose panel though.

To me its all in the setup of the car as well. I think if I still had the orange side indicators and stock or shiny chrome wheels, it would look more out of place. I have shadow chrome wheels and the nismo tinted indicators so there is now more of a theme (burgandy/grey instead of burgandy, grey, light grey (or bling chrome) and orange).

Also, pictures can rarly do it justice. In person I think it looks better, and when the car is rolling on by you, looks even better still. Ultimately its personal opinion that matters most. I think it would be sad and a waste of time if people did up their cars for the sole purpose of pleasing other people you dont even know/care about.

We are all different, I think it looks okay on burgandy but would look odd on white :) And if you want to paint over it, it should be easy and I dont think painters you employ to do a job should make it hard for you.

Your zed is nothing but class! post up a pic mate!

Pretty sure your the only one with that bar down here too!

And my CF bonnet is not painted yet!! maybe it just looks like it from my profile pics??....I had the same idea as RedTT with the bonnet spray design but still tossing it up with just a full matching spray. Getting it done next week.
