    Guys/Girls

I've been on this forum for a coupl'a months now, and I've learnt a lot.
If you keep reading, you pick up an awful lot of useful information (and a lot of crap)

One of my observations is that a lot of people (or all of us) seem obsessed with something

Some obsessions seem to be :

    * getting maximum boost
    * getting maximum KW out of the thing
    * getting the 100k service done
    * getting the fastest 100kph or 1/4 mile
    * changing engine internals to highest performance
    * getting the best looking front bar
    * changing the nose centre panel
    * changing the rear lights to clear lights
    * getting the indicators to be clear
    * changing the dash light colours to blue
    * polishing all visible engine parts
    * bypassing under plenum hoses
    * changing all lights to LEDs'
    * getting huge brake rotors
    * lowering the car so you will hit every hump and ruin camber
    * getting the biggest wheels possible
    * redoing the interior with new colours
    * putting in speakers as big as the boot
    * doing a datascan every day

The turbo seems to be the big (and expensive) thing. I'm not into turbos, but I appreciate a keen interest. Is it worth it ? I would hate to get hooked on turbos as I can see it myself going broke very fast,

Is there anybody obsessed with servicing the car to perfection ?
Is there anybody obsessed with bringing the car back to 100% stock ?
Is there anybody obsessed with trying to improve the safety of the car ?
Is there anybody obsessed with sex ? (silly question, guess all of us)

What else are your obsessions ?

I quite like he power of the Z the way it is...I'd have to say I'm obsessed with getting the 100k service done and getting the inside and out looking as good as possible, though not going to the length of changing interior bits that are ok, only things like steering wheel (worn) etc.

Oh yeah, and I'm obsessed with sex. [Insert Loud'n'proud's comment here]

    Being on 99 posts

I'm now obsessed to see if I will become a 'member' instead of a 'junior member'

Otherwise, I've become obsessed with polising the stock wheels.

Bad choice, Anybody got any idea on how long it takes to polish a wheel.

I take pity though on the poor soul who decided to polish the plenum.

Maybe start small? I'm think of polishing the antennae rod :p

As for the wheel, you can get it professionally done for $100 a wheel at a palce here in Perth, I'm sure Sydney has similar places. You need to weigh up whether you time is worth the $100 as I imagine polishing a wheel without professional gear would take days.

Sorry, Jinxed, I forgot that one

a few people are obsessed with posting

    but that's what aus300zx is about, isn't it ?
Where else could I get anybody to read and even remotely appreciate what I'm writing ?

It's not so much the result

that counts, rather the effort that goes into it. I like spending the hours doing this work that is only going to mean anything to myself. Everybody else is just going to see a wheel, I'm going to see a wonderfully polished wheel that is not perfect, but has had a big effort put into it. I don't really care what they think about the wheel. As long as I like it, I'm happy.

Yes DO start polishing the antennae. Nobody is going to notice, but you'll be happy. (I think it was on the Patrol I polished the antennae)

Most of my obsessions stem from going to my first track day a few months back, since then its nitrous for drags, more power, massive brakes, fully adjustable track suspension, stand alone ecu, cooling system just generally everything to make the zed go as quickly as possible around a race track, the looks took a back seat after the first track day but still run around on chrome 20's for cruising with the big carbon fibre gt track wing on the rear and yes everyone tries to run me. Also servicing I have changed my the oils and fluids three times in 3 months (changed before each track day) probably a bit excessive but better to be safe.
My last and probably most annoying is my sheer desire to do stuff no one else has done at least in aus anyway like my modded td05-16g to 20g turbo kit and possibly the vg30 stroker kit.

    I'm obsessed with Stef...

    Nah, just kidding... ;)

My obsession changes monthly I think...

I become fixated on one part of the car that I want to change...and it could be anything...I then stay fixated on it until it gets done.

I think a lot of members are like that. Except we are all fixated on different parts of our cars which varies.

But with so many things to do, the obsessions will last a long time.

Oh yeah, you forgot one...some people are obsessed with weight saving. That's a popular one... :)

I'm the opposite...I wanna see how fat I can get her before she needs a V8 Twin Turbo to pull her along...lol

You should have a chat with Miksta. He's got some TD05's he plans to (eventually) put on his Z. Maybe convince him of all the hard work ahead of him lol?

My obsession is getting the car mechanically and cosmetically stock: then i can really start modifying it! There's a few things i've deliberately already modified, such as adjustable upper arms and a 1-piece tailshaft, but those are in the interests of long-term reliability and servicability (another obsession of mine). Eventually, i'd hope to rebuild the engine with a 3.2l stroker kit and some other NA upgrades, but those plans are a long way off.

But i guess you could say that I am OBSESSED WITH THE Z

    I'd have to say...

that my obsession as of recent is to get this damn TT motor in :)

That day will come, 1 day.....

i think the beauty of having an imort is that there's such a wide range of mods you can do to them, whether it be for performance or purely cosmetic. every man (plus the girls on here) need a project, and the zed is it, or possibly one of them.

i like the fact that for the zed, there's more than one place to get parts from, there's a choice of one or more front bars to choose from etc.
The previous car i owned didn't give me much of that, so its fun being able to personailse the car, and also have fun tinkering on it while enjoying a beer on a saturday afternoon. I'll admit that the girlfriend does get jealous, and not overly impressed when i rock up with a bit of grease on my dinner suit cos i just had to check something in the engine bay before i came and picked her up.

for me, once i performed my first mod, the actual fun of doing it and achieving it was addictive. so now i find myself always doing something, and always promising myself i won't spend any more money on her, where in reality it will have to someday stop if i ever want to own a house.

i think the list you've got there is pretty spot on. a good read as i'm familiar with most of them.
    cheers

Many of us obsessed with maintaining the integrity of

the original design. That doesn't necessarily mean keeping it stock, but doesn't mean changing too much so that it looks more like a Ferrari either.

    I bought a 300zx because I like 300zx's :zlove:

    NO OBSESSION!!!

I've got no obsession at all.

Other than to one day be able to maybe drive my car for longer than 6 months without having to rebuild a g/box or turbo.

OBSESSION is 9/10ths of the law... not posession. :p

    Fate... obsessing over THE DREAM!

I am currently obsessed with servicing it is my latest thing, the only reason i am obsessed with servicing is cos i am also obsessed with more boost so i can get more KW so i can go faster down the quater mile, but all my latest purchases have been servicing stuuf currently i have engine oil, gear oil, diff oil, o2 sensors, steering boots, i am off to buy some gear stick bushes next and a new tyre cos i had a blow out on the weekend so yeah, i am currently obsessed with servicing

    AndyMac Better than you

I've completed all those obsessions, except for the last 3.

Well returning it back to stock isn't really up for negotiation, seeing most of the other obsessions were taking me away from that one.

Improving the safety of the car wasn't really something on my mind...never though have I moved to reduce the safety of the car. I guess bigger brakes could count as making it safer...

And the last one, <sigh> I fail miserably. The bane of being ugly...too much money goes into the other obsessions :D :zlove: :zlove:

One obsession that isn't on the list, but I must admit I have in abandon, is watching the way a dandylion disperses in the breeze...it's so pretty.
