now, I am giving away beer to whoever can help get my 300 running. either by giving me the advice to get it running, or by coming and helping/doing it personally (more for personal help)
    now the problem.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/6576178217/ for people with facebook. ("Benjamin Barlows" post)
those without ill upload a video tomorrow.
car will start but no idle unless I rest my foot on pedal (video). I have unplugged my afm, it starts and idles, but not for to long (video).
I have also started to unwrap my harness to find any broken wires, im at the firewall and no problems. have used a afm off a known running car and no improvement.
I am not sure if the air lines are where they are ment to be as there are only 2 maps online for a n/a and I don't know how to check.
please let me know what you know.

I live at Thornton (30 min from Newcastle)
    thankyou in advance
    ben

    Ben,

I get my licence back on Saturday so I can pop up if you're in dire need of a NA to copy off.

the 3 places I would look at in order -

1 TPS (because its the easiest)

2 vacuum/boost leak check if clear and even if not clear also check both control solenoid/valves on the right side of the engine at the rear - passenger side for us in Aus the one on the corner controls idle speed the one further in is the cold start solenoid, make sure this is not seized open.

3 check fuel flow rates - how long since you have replaced your fuel filter.

this engine sounds like its idling rough to me the fact you can get it to run by adding more throttle makes me lean toward one of the first 2.

    -----

4 (added for good measure) when were the spark plugs last changed - dont clean them - go get some copper cores and try them out.

Gunna be hard to do some of those things without any diagnostic software at all.

If I can sell off a whole lot of parts in the next week then i'll buy some software and a small notebook and head up there to help out.

Actually you can check all of them without consult , multimeter needed lol

    Fuel flow rates - how?

Well issue is on start up , check fuel pressure on crank. Personally I don't think it's fuel related more spark/air. (Throttle related to air)

    Stop! Don't unwrap the wiring!
Wires don't just break in a wiring harness unless they have been damaged by impact, or someone moving them, for example, bending them out of position to access other parts.
You should be carefully unplugging connectors & checking for corrosion etc on the terminals & pins, not unwrapping harnesses.
Was the car operating correctly & this problem has recently occurred?
I would check for fault codes stored in the ECU, before I did anything else.
The Nissan Factory Service Manual, will be your greatest asset in diagnosing faults.
Perhaps you would be interested in staging a Tech Day where members may be able to assist with your problem.
As a matter of interest, what brand of beer & how many slabs per hour are you offering?

agree'd I also think spark/air is probably the most likely cause and I am tending towards air/vacuum but still think the option of replacing the plugs with some cheap new copper cores would not hurt and rule out plug failure as well.

I only suggested the TPS voltage as it is easy to back probe the plug with a multimeter and even if not the cause is always worth checking.

    Crank Angle Sensor?

Mine did the exact same die at start up as in the clip when my old crank angle sensor was not making correct contact with the cam. Do you have a Conzult cable you can connect to the ECU to see what may be showing a code or what voltages are out on your sensors ?

    ^ HA... no :D

that would be good, ill me know what day you are able to come down.

ill give the 1 and 2 ago then I finish work.
fully rebuilt motor. oil, fuel, air and sparks, (are from coz)
ive already moved the harness and re wrapped it, just unwrapped it to follow the one set of wires. but ill stop where I am and put it all back together....
got to get back to work, ill figure out the bph (beer per hour) while im at work as I have nothing better to do

I live about 10 minutes from you, I have a consult, but I can't get there for a few days.

so has the engine been like this since it was installed then or is it an issue that has appeared? I would get a set of plugs anyway, its always nice to have a spare set for emergancies.

If the engine has been behaving like this since any form of work done on it may pay to check the 2 fuel lines and make sure they are the correct way around. as well as all your plugs etc.

Finally does the car idle on its own if the AFM is unplugged?

the car has not been worked since I have hooked everything up. it runs without the afm plugged in. car wont idle on its own for long (about 10-20 sec)

the car did run before the rebuild (some 19months ago)
