I have one pretty noisy injector (i think it is an injector), you can hear it the most when you open the drivers side door and go to get out it seems to be coming from right at the top of the bonnett. When you shut the engine off you hear it sort of flap for a bit and then die.I also have the ocassional tick.... tick, tick, tick.... tick which I am pretty sure is one of the lifters, but this other sound is more like a rapping sound, like a quick little drum beating.I guess that means the injector is worn and in trouble of failing? I just have a bad feeling about it but perhaps it is normal? And how hard are they to replace and how much?
Can you bring it along....>> To the Tech Day in a couple of weeks so we could listen to it? Very hard to diagnose a starnge noise over the net. I've never heard an injector make a rapping sound like a drum beat but then I haven't heard everything yet. An old mechanics trick is to take a long screw driver and use it like a stephoscope to listen for starange noises. Just place the blade on the cover of each injector and your ear against the other end and you should hear them tick along nicely. If one sounds different to all the others then it might be worth investigating. You can also test them using a multimeter to see if they are good or bad. I can't remember the range a good one should return but a quick search on either here or twinturbo.net should get those figures for you.
I get a ticking sometimes..... from the drivers side, and it does get louder with the door open. I thought maybe it had something to do with the AIV's as they are in the wheel arches. Anyway, I went to Joe so he could listen and the look he gave me was one of "there's nothing wrong, its just normal engine noise". Cheers
Yeah but its right in the middle... of my exam period which is a bugger. I guess if study is going alright then I could spare a few hours... will have to wait and see though. In the mean time I'll try and check them out myself, if no success then I'll probably be at tech day.
something to try... when i replaced my front windsheild cowls i removed the rubber that sits on the underside of my bonnet that meshes with the cowls to stop noise and water entering the engine, well i forgot to replace the rubber, went for a drive TICKY TICKY TICKY TICKY im like WTF, then realised i had no sound insulation from that bit of rubber.
