hey guys i bought a nistune board but im considering selling it and going to a stand alone management system like the aem plug n play, what sensors can i ditch with the tune then besides the afm? also whats the major advantages, in future if i go for 600hp will nistune be enough
    thoughts?

Nustune will do it mate, only pros I see for stand alone aftermarket ecu is map sensor and features like launch control.

Really for the price though nistune is great! I say give it a go with nistune and if you find it doesn't do what you like its easy to change!

The real decider is who is going to tune the car, if you have someone local who is familiar with nistune you're set, otherwise you may find it difficult to find someone you trust with your car.

Most good aftermarket systems will offer higher resolution mapping than Nistune, but yes there is a price you pay for it.

AFM will probably be a restriction above 600hp...

A single AFM yes, but you can solve that by adding a 2nd one! Still cheaper than getting a power FC or something similar.

You're running nistune aren't you Rob?

Not Nistune, was running an Apexi Power FC D-Jetro (now for sale, hint hint smeath...), now running a Vi-pec.

Nice choice, my brother almost got a Vi-pec for his RB30/26 monster but ended up using an Adaptronic which he is really pleased with.

Sorry smeath I don't know anything about the aem plug and play so can't comment on that sorry!

Wow that's a good price! Are you sure?

Quick google search the best I could find was $1100USD for ECU only, or $1600-$1800USD (plus post of course) for 300zx plug in unit. No hand controller either so laptop only tuning and no display unless you want to add serial datastream gauge for another $200USD. Racetechnology/Aim/Racepack displays are another option but more $$ again.

    Does look nice though.

Re the power FC I didn't mean to spam your thread, it was more of a tongue in cheek comment. I'll just leave it at I'm open to offers if you're in the market for that kind of thing...

    Cool.

Yeah I was happy with the Power FC but want some more flexibility. Not into launch control and other wanky features, but I do want some more outputs for things like electronic waterpump and water/meth injection. The buy price of the Vi-Pec was pretty reasonable (similar to AEM from the look of it, a little cheaper than a haltech plug in) but it's the extra time fine tuning everything that seems to be adding up! They've done a couple of sessions on the dyno now, getting it all just right.

But yes finished product should be very nice!

You know, you can convert your zed to fuel flex with a ViPEC ecu.....just putting that out there :D

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

    Sorry but not that special.
Not too many recent ECU's you cant do that with just a switch on the dash and swap from one map to the other.

Guys read the sau thread before bagging it... The very cool thing about flextune is that it uses a sensor to detect the ethanol content of your fuel and adjusts your tune automatically.

No need for switches or any other user input (once it's tuned of course), and it doesn't matter if you put half a tank of e85 on top of half a tank of PULP. Track users I'm sure would appreciate being able to fill up a tank with e85, race all day, and fill up with regular fuel on the way home without needing to adjust tuning before or after.

Vipec isn't the only ecu with this capability (I could have done this with power fc and the right sensors too) but the technology is pretty cool. Karl's twin tune is a great idea and very clever, but flex tune is something else.
