Heya, as the title suggests Im a noob when it comes to fixing cars thus why i started this, hoping that one of u experts could either shine some light on my problem or point me in the right direction.

I've had a look around the tech section printing of files here and there and doing what i can to fix the car myself rather than take it to a mechanic and spend hundreds when it can be done at home (also good bonding time with the zed :zlove: )

    The Problem

Excuse me if i said kinda vague in describing it.

Its seems as if the engine either isnt getting the right amount of fuel flowing throughout the system or its just not burning enough of it, resulting in the car to have a little rumbling shake and slight coughing as i drive.
Happens from the moment i start the engine up however the problem isnt as bad if i let the engine idle for a few minutes before starting to drive.
Also sometimes after i have been driving for more then 20mins or so i may get the cat over temp light (i think thats wat its call) on the dashbourd come on.

    Recent Changes

Since i brought the car in november last year, thanks to the tech section i have made some changes to help better improve the car.

    replaced fuel filter
    replaced internal fuel pump
replaced oil filter and oil change
had mechanic replace Air Flow Meter
and the previous owner replaced spark plugs not long before selling

    Car Details

1993 (Imported over in 2002 im told)
    N/A
    Manual conversion
    Zairlady Z
    190xxxkm
    2+0

    What To Do

Im kinda stumped on what next to do because im not sure what part of the car is wrong, weather it be some electrical components not firing up right or somthing mechanical. Unfortunatly from what i've noticed reading the forums most of u guys live along the east coast whereas im in southern SA so its not like i can just go to down and have someone take a look at it.

Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated

Hi and welcome. Check the following plugs for corrossion and condition. Air floweter - p.t.u - c.a.s - injector - coil - idle air control - temp sensors. Also the balance tube has o'ring that should be replaced so if the plugs have been changed check that they have been renewed as a air leak can make the motor run sh1t. Also remove all the coil packs and make sure the little spring and carbon piece are in the spark plug end hole. Use the search function or look in the tech section to get ideas of what to do as there is a lot of info and photos with how to do's.
    Cheers Dave
P.S there is a tech day early next month in Geelong that would be worth the drive to meet a few fellow Z's and do some little matienance jobs.

    Mitch Has one gear: GO

Throttle position sensor will cause that jerky coughing when driving. Check out the tech article on how to adjust it.
Protip: buy a $5 multimeter and it will be your mate for life (or until it breaks and you buy a fluke brand one)

Still running the S1 PTU? Get that bad boy outta there and swing in a S2. I've had two S1 PTUs go dead on me and both caused misfires when they finally died.

Have you checked that all 6 cylinders are firing by pulling the coilpack leads one at a time?

If you are seeing the Cat over temp light, then you have unburnt fuel in the exhaust.
Maybe get your injectors flowtested and replace all the o-rings.
First though, you could look at your O2 sensors operation as they control mixture at light loads and cruising.
O2 sensors can also be tested if you have a laptop, cable and software.
If not, someone nearby can help.
Also, the cable and software are easy to purchase, and some software is free.
