    Just bought a 1990 300ZX N/A, as it's my first car (P Plates).

Having a few issues with some parts.

First up, heater core is leaking profusely.

Second can't work out climate control, linked to heater core problems?
We can get the ambient temperature to rise in car, by a few degrees, but when we press the demist button ( the left control panel top left button) we get air only to feet and from centre panel, not from windscreen vents. Very confusing.

Thirdly lot's of "play" in gearstick, major problem or minor quick fix? Gear's select beautifully, smooth just very sloppy in stick.

Lastly notice when engaging and disengaging clutch "clunky" sound in rear end. Possibly diff?

Any help or advice on these parts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

wobbly shifter is most likley worn shifter bushes. Only $10 or so from
cazracing.au. Easy do it yourself. Post pics of your car. It's mandatory. Well maybe not but still

    some answers

you can either bypass the heater core and have no heater, or replace it.....just remember if you bypass you will have no heater function, will still have ac demist etc just no heater....
if you wish to bypass look at tech articles, its in there

your sloppy shifter will most likely be shifter bushings, again easy fix a little fiddly but cheap and a do it at home sort of job.....

enjoy your z, they are a spectacular car when performing correctly....

I can help with the heater core issue. there is a guide in the tech section on how to do a bypass. also if you still want a heater you can look into getting another heater core there is a group buy they are looking to get together on the forum. you can do the bypass with the plenum on but it's a pain and you might as well do the under plenum hoses at the same time.

Thankyou all so much for your replies. There was actually a bypass on there before, we took it off and connected up hoses to see if the heatercore worked, leaked like a sieve(sp?). Did chem-i-weld to see if that would fix the heater core. still leaks. I put my name down on the Group Buy for a heater core.

Another question, why would the air not be coming up through the windscreen vents? boggles me.

Diff bushes should be at fault for the rear clunk. Cheap parts, expensive labour.

Another member can clarify this but as I understand it, sometimes the switch (unsure of technical term? Doors, flaps, etc) between demister and AC 'stick' and don't work correctly. Mine occasionally has an intermittent problem and doesn't turn on the windscreen vents. Try a search.
