    mmarschall 3.5 zeds in sheds

    Hi everyone!

Made the drive up the coast yesterday and came home with a zed. On the back of a tow truck... :S

    General info:
    1990
    Twin Turbo
    Targa Top
    2 Seater
    Automatic
    111xxxkms
    Was red resprayed professionally white.

Some of you may have seen it about a week ago on ebay, didnt sell there. I got in touch with the owner by email and after looking it over decided to buy it.

    Mods:
    BOVs Blitz pair
    Hard pipes
320kph speedo (aftermarket white facia, unknown make)
AVS 18's with really good tyres
    Airpod
    ULTRA T. Timer
    ULTRA B. Guage
Recaros (with proper bolt in frames under them not a dodgy home weld up)
    Sideskirts
    Rear bar
    Exhaust system
    Personal S/wheel
    Sony CD player
    Remote central locking with alarm.

    The good:
-Engine replaced and a LOT of bits reconditiond/replaced and work done totaling around 12k (done at a nissan dealer so way overpriced. approx 15,000kms ago.
    -lots more reciepts
-Wheels have 2 near new ALTENZO (with reciept for $760) and 2 80% tread FALKEN tyres with even wear. AVS 18" rims have very small gutter marks on the surface coating. Could re-coat...? buggers also have a locknut that i dont have a key for.
    -Clock works!
-AT fluid and coolant look good, oil is getting a bit dark but still "normal".
-Chassis decent, near no rust (one small spot found under the seal above passanger tailight).
-its a 2 seater with turbos!

    The bad:
1- Has a bit of a scratch on the front bumper, i have been assured that it will buff out but i do feel it may need a bit more.

2- Alarm/remote set to instantly lock everything when the door is closed or engine is started and also intermittently stops me from starting the engine for a few attempts), needs to be removed or reset properly.

3- Engine runs/idles well but on a cold start early this morning ran on 5 cylinders for a few seconds at startup then smoothed out to a normal purr (had been standing outside overnight, LOT of condensation), re-starting again this afternoon it ran fine. After replacing the damaged intercooler it appears to run rich on boost and also i suspect the radiator shroud may have come loose at the bottom as there is a rubbing/plastic rattle from down the front fan area, thought this was the engine at 1st but sounds plastic/dulled not metallic. So far i have only driven it about 5m (on and off the truck) and reved to 3,000 standing still to check if the turbos start up after replacing the intercooler (got a "PHST" from the BOVs). Going to pull the plugs for a compression test tomorrow if i have time and after checking a few more things bring it up to operating temp and a short drive.

4- general condition, the drivers seat needs repair/retrim, passanger power window switch surround is cracked, stereo surround is looking shabby, dash starting to lift, rear bumper has a small point damage (surface crack in paint visible), sun damage to outer trim strips, passanger cowel broken... etc.

    Front end details:
Looking down around and along the chassis rails they are, to the best of my ability to see, 100% straight. Headlight mountings are pretty buggered (bent down and in) and the radiator support is out of wack where the headlight housings got pushed into it. AC piping is slightly bent in 2 locations but appears unbroken. Quarter panel to door alignment appears dead on but the front corners of both quarters are bent. Other than needing 1 replacment intercooler all other piping appears undamaged.

This is what it looked like at purchase (sellers pic)

Now what it looks like at home with a few bits pulled off to clean up the front:

Anyone know what the little switch could be for next to the AT?

Now the question... is it worth repairing or part her out?

    Extra info: :)
I have EVERY part here already off a 96 TT halfcut in white to directly replace all the bolt on front end parts however the car is probably worth more as parts?
If i keep the car for myself the rims need to go (I prefer 16s).
Allignment would be a PAIN to do (headlight brackets).

    firstly.....GREAT PICKUP!!!

i saw it on ebay and would have been bidding if it was this side of the nullabor....

depending on how much you got it for, will depend just how well youve done, but if you decide to part out you will make money hand over fist for sure.

imho, and ive been down this road a few times, that ones a wrecking job. sure you COULD fix if you were determined, but lots of fiddly shitty jobs to do to get that front end straight, the dealing with non factory paint colours is always fun, plus there may(probly will) be other niggling things that are wrong with the car as per any zed..............

so in short, pick the good bits you want, part out the rest and enjoy the cash flow hehe!

Right hand chassis rail is bent down. I would do a radiator support cut on it to repair the front damage. I would confirm engine, suspension and gearbox condition before doing that however.

edit, logged in on kylie's account, lol.
