    Bought a set of 18x8, 18x9s for $450
Need new tyres but need help deciding... For QLD Roads

Description : Price (fitted) (front 235/40/18, Rear 265/35/18)
595 SS Federals $168-$218 Good price, Wear? Traction?
Kumho KU-31 $250-$298 Bit more pricey, good experience with them so far..
NS-2 Nankang $178-$230 Good price, heard good things, but Wear? Traction?

I have 17s, KU-36s on my rears now, and they just arent practical on a daily, cool, and stick like glue, but wear is not good..
KU-31s on the front, i think they are great, but not sure if they are worth it, i think they might be but cant decide?

Nankang suck. Well mine did anyway.

If you're after a grippy street tyre what about Sumitomo? I am running HTR Z II on the rears for my street wheels, and have heard plenty of good things about the HTRZ III.

Aren't Sumitomo a cheap tyre like Nankang and the alike?

I dunno.... not cheap cheap bit not super expensive either. In my case a big improvement over Nankang. There are plenty of good reviews of the HTRZ III's eg http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=93

Ku31s if on the cheap but for a few bux more the ku37's can be had.
An exceptional tire in the wet. Very hard to brake traction in my chipped vz ls1 ute.

    Trev

I came across this handy tyre review from cheapies up to more expensive ones. It's a pretty interesting read.

    Hmmmm confused..!!

Are those front ones a little narrow, only saying it because my stock rims are running 245's on the front and I'm pretty sure they're not 17x8 (maybe they are) if so then you could run 245/45/18 if they make them!!!
I might be totally off track as I've never had anything other than stock rims (too far down the shopping list lol)

Stocks are 7.5" all round. ...and a 245 on them are not ideal due to excessive side wall bulge. You should be running a 225 on those 7.5" stockies ideally.

8" fronts are fine, and perfect for a 235 tyre which is perfect for the fronts. If you go too fat a tyre on the front, you increase the chances of aquaplaning on wet roads - rather than "cutting" through the water.

I'm running a 9" rim on my fronts, but still only running a 235 wide tyre.

Another option is the Federal 595 EVO's. They're better then the 595 SS's. But wear slightly quicker due to the softer compound, but are a very nice tire. I would be between minds on the Evo's vs the KU31's. I chose KU31's as i had been using them and liked them.
