Hey guys, just putting this out for discussion.... I had to drive up to Armidale last week and (as I'm sure many already know...) there are some great roads with beautiful scenery up in the New England area. I'm wondering if there would be any interest in a New England cruise? I would suggest heading up the freeway, around Newcastle to the Pacific Highway, take the Bucketts Way through Gloucester and follow Thunderbolts Way to the New England Highway. Back home from New England Highway through Branxton, then through the Hunter to Freemans Drive and back South via the F3. A rough timetable could be 7:00am depart Berowra Mobil at Pacific Highway, Berowra (fuel up, jump straight on the F3 northbound). Possible second meeting point at the top of the freeway? Mitch? 9:30ish hit Gloucester, possible break? Coffee, scones, etc 12:00 arrive at New England Highway, Uralla. At this point we can either head North to Uralla for lunch at a Winery http://www.uralla.com/wine-dine-17.html OR head South for lunch in Tamworth around 1:30. Assuming we leave Uralla by 1:30 (or Tamworth by 2:30) we should be at Wine Country Dr (Cessnock Aerodome) by 5:30, and back at the Newcastle FWY (Sydney) by 6:45. So who would be keen? Yes it's a long day in the car, but they were made for touring right??? Possible issues -no mobile reception on Thunderbolts Wy so a couple of CBs would be a good idea. Plenty of fuel on the New England, but not alot going the other way. Departing Sydney on a full tank would be a MUST, and possibly filling up before lunch (I think there is a BP on the New England HWY at Uralla). I would probably suggest the second last weekend in June as the last weekend would put us firmly into school holiday traffic....
One step ahead of you Rob ;-) Good roads from western sydney to the bucketts way / thunderbolts way heading north. I have a google maps route planned here, when I was planning a run up the putty road >>Click Here<< It's a long trip, but if you are going sydney to armidale, its almost a overnight thing anyway. A solid day's driove to armidale, then an overnight stay (plenty of accom options in armidale) followed by a run thru dorrigo then back south on the Pac highway. Just food for thought as a few alternative routes I too, am keen for this trip
that damn ALZEIMER'S/OLDTIMERS has got me again .... i really did think that we had a ZedFest at Armidale a while back ... ???
Hmmm don't know about step ahead, maybe step sidways I'm not too keen on an overnight thing, but definately a day trip? Would probably need more interest than the three of us (Martin has to work haha) to go ahead. Must be more out there who want to put some mileage on their cars???
Talk to HaylZ about what she thinks about that long, steep hill on Thunderbolt Hey, Mitch was there too Bit far for a one day cruise I think
It's not all that bad! Camry ate it up with only minor overheating (dodgy radiator cap as it turns out....). Yeah definately a long day, something I would enjoy though it depends on the company...
Yeah, I think it was more of an issue of blasting thru the mountains at a good speed before being stuck behind a old 4wd pulling a trailer. We were all crawling at like 10km/h, all suffering heatsoak to the buggery, and this was the outcome Yeah I was there, had a blast. That photo was shortly after I filled the rad with the water from my esky ... Under the watchful eye of our fearless leader - AndyMac
yep, that has to be one of the classic Forum pics ... and a good story behind it .... and take a look at the beautiful Spaniel in the background ... the look ... as if .. "do I give a fxxk" ... lol ...!!! but then, did my original post have a poignant point .. ???
Yeah I could be up for that Rob, I love that drive. And there is no-one who has nursed a car back from the brink more often and successfully that me and that blue lady

Ah a cross thread trading of insults? MUST be a quiet night on the Gold Coast. I don't know what your interest is in the first place, you are definately NOT invited.
LOL... a thousand laughs ... not another conspiracy theory ... ???!!!! must go and check my emails .... and one very special, top day on God's Own Coast ..
And to spite your best efforts(and without seeking your approval beforehand)some of we New South Welshmen may visit there again someday. Is it just me, or did other people miss the Forum notification that required everyone to seek QLD approval for NSW Cruises?
